Ok, so we don't hijack the fifth wheel thread anymore, I wanted to post the stuff I learned from the Morryde reps at the rally I attended. First, they were very clear that putting on the SRE 4000 doesn't gain you any height; maybe a 1/2 inch and at most an inch. They do not feel it's something you should count on in helping with the nose high issue many of us are having with the newer model trucks and their ridiculous bed heights. Their independent suspension is very adjustable in terms of height. It can definitely raise your trailer to make it level, but it will cause your bank balance to sink significantly at the same time.

Something I found interesting was that the Morryde rep told me he doesn't recommend the SRE 4000 on a fifth wheel heavier than around 15k. Instead, he would recommend the CRE 3000 (up to around 18k). The 4000 is much heavier and has more travel (4" vs. 3") and gives a smoother ride as the springs in the CRE 3000 don't engage as rapidly. The "X-Factor", which is the cross member, comes standard with the 4000--and it has to, to help stiffen the frame where the big, heavy 4000 hangs down from. The cross member does NOT come standard with the 3000, but can be added. If you look on the Morryde web site, you'll see that the 4000 is only recommended for axles from 5200-7000 pounds, while the 3000 goes up to 8k axles.

I have pics of the different systems and the heavy duty wet bolt shackles below. I also have a pic of the Dexter EZ flex suspension. The Dexter guys mostly talked about brakes and axles and didn't say anything that I caught about their suspension.

I already had the CRE3000 on my Cardinal, but last spring I did install the HD shackle/Wet Bolt Kit. That was one of the best mod's I did. I only had about 3000 miles from new, and my nylon bushings looked like that. Also, the torsional flex put on the shackles on sharp backing is pretty intense, and definitely warrants the HD upgrade. For a tandem axle trailer, the kit is very reasonable, around $100 from online retailers.

 

I plan to install the CRE3000 and wet bolt shackle kit on our new to us 28 ft Heartland Sundance 267rl in the near future. It came with Correct Track on it, but still sits a bit nose high even though the springs are on top of the axles. There are three ways that I see to get the trailer completely level and one would be to lower the truck which is not happening. Second would be to put bigger tires on it, but I don't feel there is enough clearance between the axles, so that is not happening. Last would be to put blocks over the axle and under the spring with new U-bolts, but I don't want to do that either. The angle is not bad regarding the nose high, but it is there.

I think the CRE3000 and wet bolt shackle kit will add a good amount of towing comfort and reliability to the trailer.

I don't understand the reasoning for the 3000 over the 4000 on heavier fifth wheels. If that's what they say, I'm all for it. But my curiosity has me wondering why.

I too would love to change mine over. I did the Lippert never fail bushings last year but I just don't like the system. Not sure why. Maybe its because I just see how well the MorRyde stuff looks.

 

As @drdit92 said, the MOR/ryde IS will set you back a bit, but you can ask for whatever increase in height you want, it tracks better (and stops better with the accompanying disc brakes), and prolongs the life of the coach because of the improved ride. The truck we had at the time of the IS install was taller than our current truck, so we asked for and got 2" extra height. Here are some pics of the install if anyone is interested:

 

I did the Dexter EZ Flex and Wet bolt kit and bumped up from a 4 spring set to a 5 spring set on my TT before I ever took it out after buying it from the previous owner.

I also installed a new set of Maxxix E rated tires on it also. Did all the work myself (tire shop did the tires) in one morning at my storage area.

Very happy with the upgrades. About 2500 miles towing it and running 70-75 down I-10 with it is a breeze now.
