Smile What oil is best for 2001 7.3 powerstroke

I have a 2001 7.3 Powerstroke. 236,000 mile. Runs great. My first powerstroke.
I am currently using Mobil Delvac 15W40 as was the PO.
What do you suggest for the winter. Live in Southern Colorado where temps can go to 0 degrees periodically.
Any info appreciated.

you would probably get some better answers in the F250- 350 forum or Diesel forum.. You are in the F150 forum ...... it is VERY common to use 15W40 oil in diesels .... that being said, since the temps fall to zero, some might suggest an oil with a lower FIRST number for better winter cranking and startup.

I was using Rotella 5w40 until I found TRIAX oil. The truck runs quieter, smoother and starts better in the cold. I'm also in Colorado.

There have been LOTS of oil threads on this forum. I don't put enough miles on my truck anymore to justify two changes per year, but when I can get it on sale I have noticed that the synthetics made a noticeable improvement in cold cranking speed during the winter here in PA. I've been running
Milesyn SXR 15W40 Milesyn SXR 15W40
for the past year with good results.

John,
I like the image and the quote at the bottom.
I am using Mobil 1 syn ATF in frt & rr diff. and transfer case. Seems to be doing real good.
PO has been using Mobil Delvac dino and engine runs smooth and quiet...still deciding on change.
I am getting alot of different feedback on trans oils.
What's your take on Evans Waterless Coolant?

Any diesel rated oil will do, but for the record, Supertech and Tractor Supply oils are still CJ-4 (better add packs) and very affordable. I have been running it for a year with great results and I do a lot of severe service with my truck.

I have always seen good used oil analysis reports from:
15W-40
schaeffer‘s Series 7000 15W-40
Delo 400 15W-40

5W-40 or 10W-30 for winter

Delo 400 5W-40
Rotella T-6 5W-40
schaeffers 9000 5W-30
John Deere 50+ 10W-30

of course there are some other, but these come to my mind

The only time 15W40 and 5W40 are different is during the winter when it's cold; once warm they're the same. If you're concerned about oil getting thin when hot, say ambient temps over a 100°F, then go to a 50 weight oil. But if your EOT is sticking around 200° - 210°F, then the 40 weight should be fine.
