My 2006 Expedition's battery is dead and I want to move it. I put key in ignition to unlock steering and to put in neutral. I was able to unlock the steering but cannot get it out of gear into neutral? Am I missing something?

 

There's an interlock on the gear shifter which unlocks with a solenoid when you depress the brake pedal. Since you don't have battery power, this doesn't work. There is a manual release under the steering column somewhere. Can't say where it is for exactly at the moment, but should be a hole where you poke a screwdriver in to release it.

 

I charged the battery up enough to enable shifting to neutral. Thanks
