EGR or Head Gaskets?

I have not perused these pages much since probably 2010. The 04 I have I bought in Dec 2005 and I said I'd run it til it dies. First diesel I ever owned and I read a lot of things on the engine from these very pages in the 18 months it sat in the drive while I was deployed.
In the years since I was last here with any regularity, things have changed much on the 6.0. While I still have it, it has seen a multiple bovine collision in '09, multiple injectors in '10, and oil in the degas in '15 that spurred a trip to a new shop for studs, EGR delete, and a new oil cooler, and finally springing on custom tunes this week.
While I have too much "life" happening to be here a ton, I am completely amazed by just how much is different to the approach of this engine. If I'd read these things three years ago, I might have made a different approach when I had mine in.

Do you mind telling what the total cost was?
(and man do I want a lift.. getting that cab off made it so easy)

Well... my credit card charge yesterday was $1858. And I bought about $1100 in parts online to have them install- which included an alternator, motorcraft blue spring kit, degas bottle and cap, studs, motorcraft oil cooler, and EGR gasket kit. So the $1858 included head gaskets, serpentine belt, turbo inlet tube, VC9 for flush, coolant, oil/filter, and injector o-rings, and a couple other things I can’t recall; plus labor for the whole job. Out the door around $3000 total.

I will neither confirm nor deny which dealership it was.... Yeah, it’s not what you know it’s who you blo- er, know. I wish I could say I could get that price for anyone on fte but I’m pretty sure I cashed in all favors and any future favors with the service manager on this one. Even at full price I’d go there again since the diesel tech was so good. He reminds me of diesel tech Ron with how well he understands the 6.0s and all his little tricks to get it done right.
