I have a BT for my Torque Pro (Android phone) but went with the USB cable option for my FORScan. My laptop is old so I figured I'd go old school and have a cable for the best connection/transfer speed possible. I'll see how that pans out in the near future.

Yes. There is a big lag with WiFi, I face this problem with video all the time. When I am up in a boom lift 40 feet in the air, focusing a camera via WiFi - it's a game of turn, wait and watch, correct, wait and watch, tweak, wait and watch.

My BT is pretty much instantaneous.

Using the search function first can help you ask better questions though, and while FTE (generally speaking) is a very lenient forum that rarely becomes a "Search first!" kind of forum, using the search function before you ask questions also helps a person better understand the info being given because it helps shape better questions...especially for something that is frequently talked about.

So while info is regurgitated (and we don't mind) when the "search" response is posted here like Wesley Green did, it's not meant as a slap, or a put down, it really is meant to help a person because it's a good primer for the user to get them help.

Besides the other good stuff I deleted from the quote, the built-in forum search function is simply not that great. No slam on this forum, very few forums have great search functions.

I usually search this forum using google as it does have a great search function.

For this subject, I might try:

forscan OBD best bluetooth adapter site:ford-trucks.com
That last term, starting with "site:" and no space between it and the site, tells google to restrict results to only those found on this forum.

Here is a link to that search:

https://www.google.com/search?client....0.OmVefgudto4

Without even following the found links, just scanning the post snippets, I already suspect I want one with the ELM327 chip.

So then I google searched:

forscan elm327 bluetooth
And this was in shopping results at the top of the page:

https://www.walmart.com/ip/Advanced-...&wl13=&veh=sem

But rather than punt on that, I would probably dig deeper into earlier results to find one that another forum member says works. Especially if a known working unit is also less than $15.

I went Bluetooth for my Windows and Android devices with the OBDLink MX.
I would also recomend the OBDLink MX (link is in my sig under torque pro FAQ) I also suggest using BT when possible (more for the in truck communication) havent tried the Wi-Fi part honestly, but should work similar I assume

I do the same. Unless it's only a couple of words or I'm looking for something from a specific user I will go straight to Google.

I will. Still haven't tried it yet.

I have the OBDLink MX for Torque Pro on my spare phone that I use for gauges.

My laptop is old and does not have BT. Since I had to buy another adapter anyway I opted to just get a cable as I figured the connectivity and data rate would be better.

The data rate of the OBDLink MX is as fast as it gets, it out-paces my AE USB-OBDII adapter. It might be cheaper to get a USB to BT adapter for your laptop - they can be very tiny. This would give you the added benefit of giving your laptop BT for pairing with other devices.

Interesting tidbit that I did not think of. My laptop is old (~6 years) so it doesn't get much use outside FORScan, Hydra, shop manual, and music (MP3) storage. I assumed a hard line would be the best connectivity/speed and did not consider reading any specs on the items.

I do not plan to do any driving with the laptop riding shotgun so figured a wired connection would be my best option. If not, now I know I only need a USB BT adapter.

Thanks!
