Yes. There is a big lag with WiFi, I face this problem with video all the time. When I am up in a boom lift 40 feet in the air, focusing a camera via WiFi - it's a game of turn, wait and watch, correct, wait and watch, tweak, wait and watch.
My BT is pretty much instantaneous.

I was waiting for that one person with this response so it’s not very witty...Seen a lot of different things and downloads for different devices don’t know what the differences are or if I get a cable for windows etc...additionally I’ve never used the magnifying glass here...
So while info is regurgitated (and we don't mind) when the "search" response is posted here like Wesley Green did, it's not meant as a slap, or a put down, it really is meant to help a person because it's a good primer for the user to get them help.

Besides the other good stuff I deleted from the quote, the built-in forum search function is simply not that great. No slam on this forum, very few forums have great search functions.
I usually search this forum using google as it does have a great search function.
For this subject, I might try:
That last term, starting with "site:" and no space between it and the site, tells google to restrict results to only those found on this forum.
Here is a link to that search:
https://www.google.com/search?client....0.OmVefgudto4
Without even following the found links, just scanning the post snippets, I already suspect I want one with the ELM327 chip.
So then I google searched:
And this was in shopping results at the top of the page:
https://www.walmart.com/ip/Advanced-...&wl13=&veh=sem
But rather than punt on that, I would probably dig deeper into earlier results to find one that another forum member says works. Especially if a known working unit is also less than $15.

get the BAFX bluetooth scanner, sometimes our trucks can be finicky with scanners
you can download the software from Download FORScan (it's free for windows)

OBDII tools link in my signature. A "cheap" OBDII adapter can sometimes not work at all on our somewhat exclusive protocol. Using some of the money you saved by not having to buy an expensive software, I'd suggest spending a little time and money seeking out a superior quality OBDII adapter. I went Bluetooth for my Windows and Android devices with the OBDLink MX.

I will. Still haven't tried it yet.
My laptop is old and does not have BT. Since I had to buy another adapter anyway I opted to just get a cable as I figured the connectivity and data rate would be better.

I do not plan to do any driving with the laptop riding shotgun so figured a wired connection would be my best option. If not, now I know I only need a USB BT adapter.
Thanks!
