Thoughs and suggestions on C6 rebuild?
I have a '86 bronco with a stock 351, i'd like to keep it all stockish, probably 31" tires and that is about the extent. Purely a backup daily rig and i have plenty of faster rigs. It should have 3.5 gears currently according to the tag.
It needs a freshening up on the trans, nothing serious, it just does the deal where it takes 5 or so mins for drive to work. Basically an issue with hard seals from what i've gathered.
Considering what i am building what would you guys do with the C6?
I was planning on a rebuild kit and a low gear planetary kit, anything else? Can anyone suggest who i should go thru for good quality stuff?(buy once, cry once)
Also am the only one that is shocked by how much shops charge to go thru a stoneage thing like this, if they'll even touch it? I didnt want to tackle this myself since i have a 3 other serious car builds going on this summer but i was getting quotes of $2k+ for a stock going thru of a good running trans. For that price i can buy the parts and take off work for 2 weeks to do it and still come out even. Shops out here are charging $125 an hr for basic wrench turning, **** i'm in the wrong business.

The C6 shouldnt run more than $1500 for a stout build so it would seem that quote is on the high side.
the E4OD on the other hand is a $2k-$3k rebuild all day.
good luck , i think your on the right track with the low gear planetary kit. the guts from an E4OD will also work minus the OD gear obviously.
