Dana 60 Axle/Seal Help

OK guys, we finally got into redoing the front end on our 97 F350. The thing was in pretty bad shape and most bearings were dry and seals disintegrated or flat out missing. I've been able to piece the majority of it back together and have sourced whats needed (thanks to Billa's Bible Rock Auto) but I'm stumped on a particular seal that i was hoping to get your help ID'ig/sourcing.

On some parts blow ups, I "think" its referred to as "#90" but none of the sites give its name or any part numbers.

To describe it, it sits on the end on the outward axle tube where the upper and lower ball joint arms connect to the axle tube. You can see it here in the picture.....looks like one used to be there but not for some time.

Sure would love some help in figuring out what seal it is and a part number would be great.

Thanks!

That is just a dust seal, it isn't really necessary to have, I got rid of mine a long time ago.

Thank you - I was doing some further digging and looks like the Dana Spicer number is 50492 but as you noted, most people say its not necessary, some say it never came with the trucks. Tough part for us is the front axle was so bad that most items are not even there so knowing what belongs becomes challenging.

So does anything belong in that opening I circled in red above? Or does the axle just float in that opening and connect to the inner bearing/splines?

National Seal # 710453 Oreilly 3 year waaranty
SKF/Forsheda Seal # 18844 Napa

Nothing else goes in there. I just replaced ball joints on my 97 F350 and while there also my dust seals. Some say they are not needed and mine had been torn for awhile and still had very little dirt in axle but for $16, why not. I can see it being valuable if going through water and mud.

Also depending on year, the seal didnt even come installed.

I have never seen a dana 60 in an OBS with a seal in there. In fact I have never seen a seal there since Ford went to the open knuckle front axle going back to the early Bronco with the dana 44.

My 97 F350 Dana 60 had one but but my buddies 95 F350 Dana 60 did not. The machining where the seal would go was different on his.

I didn't mean to imply that there were none offered, just that out here where almost every truck you see is a 4X4, I have yet to see one in an OBS. The NBS yes.

Thinking it may be due to my build date of after Oct 97 as some parts differ from previous years.

My 97 had them. I replaced one side when I rebuilt the front end earlier this year. I only did 1 because I had to replace an inner axle shaft, and the aftermarket shaft was machined to not even accept a seal. The axle shaft was much close to the end of the axle tube that the stock one was.
