'17 3.5 Eco, oil pan leak

My oil pan had to be replaced this week.
It started leaking between the 20 and 30k mile mark.
3 days in the shop.

It won't surprise me if the aftermarket responds with an aluminum replacement oil pan. This seems to be a common issue with the composite oil pans.

Its funny. My '11 6.7 came with a composite.
In '12 they went back to stamped steel.

The '18 F150 5.0 I rented has a composite.
Drain plug looks to be aimed right at the sway bar.
5.0 guys won't like that.

I hope your right and the aftermarket responds with something better.
Even a better sealant would work.

I have not heard anyone say the tranny pans have an issue yet.

Looks like FoMoCo is now doing this. The 2017 and earliest built 2018 Raptors had composite oil pans. Starting around March the 2018's started getting metal oil pans. I'm pretty sure the H.O.3.5 Ecoboost pan is the same as a non H.O.pan. > Metal oil pan and drain plug? - FORD RAPTOR FORUM - Ford SVT Raptor Forums - Ford Raptor

I really wonder what the root cause of all these oil pan leaks turns out to be. Composite oil pans are nothing new...heck, the Detroit Diesel Series 60 used them for over a decade until it left production a few years ago. Why are these ones not sealing?

I'd guess it has more to do with the sealant than the material of the pan itself.

I know Permatex makes a Gasket Material that's called The Right Stuff its being used in Place of a Gasket
Its a Gray One Minute Gasket that doesn't contain any of the Silicone RTV that has been used for years
That's why the Dealer needs 3 Days for the Silicone RTV to cure do you think they are paying about
10 to 15 bucks a Kit, I have done allot of Engine work and all of these newer oil pans and Valve covers that don't use gaskets
anymore,I really think the Dealer needy to know about the Fine Permatex product that can do 2 to 4 Gasket Applications.

I really think the dealers are only authorized to use the Motorcraft sealant specified in the workshop manual. Anything else could make them liable for a chargeback in the event of a failed repair. Do you know what the specified sealant is? I don't have the service manual, how do you know they're not using the same product?

They used TA 357, sealant, silicone.

If this reoccurs outside of warranty, I well likely buy a pan ($36.00) and replace it myself using the Permatex product.

I wonder if @m-chan68 has done any of these. Any perspective on repair time?

My understanding was 3.5 hrs book time.
I heard they were supposed to due an extended drain ( 24 hrs drip out) replace the pan, seal and let cure another 12 hrs before refilling.

Can't say that's what happened.

They charged Ford over $600, Can't remember if it was $616 or $660.

It appears that the best product for this application from Permatex is a RTV silicone.
