Randy's Transmission 4R100
Just curious if anyone has used Randy's Transmission from here in UT for a 4R100 build? Thoughts? Price? Value?
For those that don't know, they specialize in building alot of high HP Cummins transmissions (68RE and RFE's), but do Allison's and others as well. He uses only the best Suncoast components and I think BW clutches.
I know alot of people will say, just have BTS or JW build one...but with these guys within a 2 hr drive from me, I'd just as soon keep it close rather than shipping the Trans cross country.

2 hour drive from which direction? I had my 4r100 rebuilt and beefed up at ultimate transmission in Boise Idaho. They have a stellar reputation around here, especially for the competition level builds. They've even had a couple customers that have competed in the diesel power challenge. I have been very happy with my moderately built tranny from them. It set me back $4500 to get a well built unit with a tugger kit, a bunch of billet and cnc machined parts, as much clutch material as they could stuff in it, a triple disk, billet lid converter and a 3yr 100k mile warranty up to 450rwhp. If I had spent the little extra for billit input shaft, forward drum and output shaft, they would have warrantied it up 550rwhp. They told me realistically, it should hold more power than that, but that is the power level they guarantee it for.
it was a hard blow to the wallet, but worth it. When I eventually get some 160/80 or 205/80 injectors and either a kc turbo or t4/sxe kit, I won't have to worry about frying the gearbox.
if time and distance hadn't been a factor, I probably would have gone with BTS. I know the truck wouldn't have made it there under it's own power though and I'd hate to remove and ship the trans out for warranty work if anything went wrong.

Randy's had a 4R100 build in Diesel Power mag about 3-6 months ago. His builds are definitely on the pricey side...but most of the good ones are. I simply don't have the time or effort to drive to Arkansas for a BTS build.
When I decide to go for the 180/100's, it will be a top priority to button up.

If going the HD4r100 route, be careful at the dealer. I almost signed the papers to have one of the local ford stealerships install a regular reman 4r100 in my truck. The price was in line with what a HD4r100 should be, but when I double checked the paperwork, I asked about it. The parts desk guy said the regular reman IS heavy duty. I pulled up the HD4r100 parts number from FTE and was given a new quote. $6200. I said no way to that price and was quoted $5200 and then $4800 at the next dealerships. None of those quotes included tax. Just parts and install. I've read here that the HD4r100 shouldn't cost that much. The dealers around here are notorious for price gouging though. $93 for a thermostat when riffraff has the exact same part for less than $30.
