Used Super Duty recommendations

My Excursion will need to be replaced soon. I will be looking for a used crew cab F250 or F350 to pull a camper. Any recommendations in regards to model year? What to look out for in a good used truck?

How deep are the pockets?

I myself would go 2012 and up, 2011 was the launch of the 6.7l and had a few turbo issues to iron out.

Thanks for the advice. What are your thoughts on the aluminum body?

Loaded question with multiple thoughts......

Aluminum has been around for years, very durable and Ford did a nice job stepping forward to save weight. My only concern is damage from an accident, the number of certified repair centers in your area and when will the Insurance companies take notice.

Make sure you watch the payload difference between the 250 an 350 in srw trim.

Lots of good capable 11 to 16 trucks out there.

I find the newest generation of superdutys to be hideous, uncomfortable, less front seating room and all round clunky...to me they feel like Iím driving with the wheel at my ankles IMO.

i found a new left over 16 F350 last October on bought it over the phone. I drove 6hrs to get it as well.

99-03 7.3 with a 6 speed, most reliable combo Ford ever offered in a Superduty in my opinion.

I agree with Maxium4x4 about the 2012 and later 6.7's.
So Superrangerman2002...., you don't like the newest generation of Superdutys but you drove 6 hrs to buy a 2016 F350 sight unseen
I do like the choice and understand why you got it, just confused on the logic.

Definitely depends on the depth of pockets.
The 17+ trucks are awesome. Best truck I’ve ever owned or ridden in.
Second choice would be a 15-16 6.7
Third would be 12-14 6.7

if you’re going to haul a trailer and gear, look for 350 over 250

I'm looking for a diesel F250 too, though it doesn't have to be a super duty. I'd put a 1,500 lb camper on it.
This looks pretty good to me, and is the drivetrain combo I'd prefer.
Thoughts? What should I ask the guy, and what should I be looking for when I drive up there to see it?

This one sure seems to check all the boxes. Anything I should be aware of for the model?

7.3, manual 4x4, and a 6 speed is the most reliable combo you can get in a Superduty in my opinion. My truck is the same configuration as that one and I love it. I would definitely jump on that one if I where you. Also since it is a 2000 model it has the stronger forged steel connecting rods, the 01 and newer have the PMR rods.
