No power at all...help

Ok, first I'm just learning about vehicles and how they work and how to fix them so if something I am asking doesn't make sense, I'm really sorry. LOL

So I have a 1976 Ford E250 with a 460 interceptor. It has been running perfectly fine. This winter we took the battery out and stored it. When we went to put the battery back in it I have NOTHING.. No lights, no starting, no anything...the battery has been tested and it is perfectly fine. It's actually better than the one in my main vehicle!

I have been researching everything I could..my son tried bypassing the solenoid with screwdrivers and nothing. He tried bypassing it with jumper cables, and when he put the positive cable onto the far post on the solenoid it started cranking over. That is the only sign of life we have seen. So we bought a new solenoid thinking that was the problem, and nothing. Same problem.

I'm pretty lost at what the next step to look for would be and any help would be greatly appreciated.

If the only change was removing the battery for the winter, make sure the battery cables are clean and tight.

Also look around at all the wiring you can see in case mice or squirrels got in there and chewed something up.

Welcome to the forum and we hope you enjoy your time here. We have a great group to answer questions and help with problems. We look forwards to your questions and input.

Look in your states chapter and talk with your neighbors.

You can post your question in the 1968-13 full sized van forum and someone will be along to help.
One place to start looking is under the battery tray. They put a ground bolt there that corroded and caused this type of problem.

Thanks for the advise so far! We checkked out all the wires that we could, and everything looks ok. nothing looks disturbed from an animal. There are so many extra wires everywhere because it was turned into a for fighter van at some point, but they all look intact.

Did you check the battery cables? Make sure they’re tight, clean, and hooked up to the battery properly.

Yes they are good. My son replaced the positive wire and ends because they looked rough.

Did he check the ground connections from the battery to the frame?
Is this a E250 club wagon?

Make sure the ground wire is in good condition. make sure there is a good ground at the mounting bracket where the starter relay mounts to the van.
With the ignition switch in the off position, jumper from the two terminals marked with a red circle and it should turn the starter over. If it does then,,, Next turn the ignition switch to the run position and again jumper the two terminals on the starter relay and see if the engine starts.

I think you have a wire that is not connected properly or you have somewhere along the way shorted out a wire that connects to the solenoid and has a fuse link in it. I briefly looked for a wiring diagram on line but didnt find one.
