1996 F350 Clutch Rod heim joint question
I have done the heim joint mod on my clutch master cylinder rod. It is releasing at the very top of the clutch pedal travel. Am I correct in my thinking that if I trim the rod slightly more it will release earlier in the travel I am trying to get it somewhere in the middle to 3/4 area of the pedal travel range.
My train of thought is if the rod is shorter it will reach the release area of travel sooner on the master cylinder. which means earlier in the travel stroke.
Am I on track or out of my mind????
It has the stock dual mass clutch and flywheel.

I think I am using the wrong wording for my description.
When I press the clutch pedal in it begins to slip and release for the shift right at the top of the travel as soon as you begin to press the pedal. I could probably shift the transmission with the pedal half way down.
In turn it is also re engaging at the top as you are lifting on the pedal. It is within 1 to 1 1/2 inches when you feel the truck to start pulling. and will still slip at that point. Once I am off the pedal I don't feel it slipping but it has to be close. I worry that the fingers may not be fully off the bearing.
I don't feel it slipping as you would with a worn clutch but I would really like to have it fully engaged and pulling at 1 1/2 to 2 inches from the top.
It seems to me if I shorten the rod slightly maybe 1/8 inch at a time I should be able to get it to engage earlier in it's travel in the master cylinder, There should be a sweet spot there somewhere.

When I did mine , if I remember correct , the answer is yes. That being said just a little goes a long way. Trim a little at a time. If you go a little to far you can put a small washer in the joint to extend the rod longer. Hope this makes sense to you. Did you take the arm off to drill? If so did you get it back on in the correct clocked position ?

I have had it apart and replaced the clutch a while back due to it getting fuel soaked because of a cracked line. I actually like the feel of the dual mass better than the single, I have a single in my F250. The F-350 only has 120,000 original miles. I guess I just left the rod to long when I changed it to a heims joint.
