No I haven't. The PO had the carb rebuilt before I bought it. That was two years ago. But I am sure there is dirt in it now.

I will remove the sending unit and look inside the tank and see what it looks like.

Today I put the new canister filter on and a new flexible fuel line. The old one looked real bad. But I don't think that's the cause of the dirt.
pictures:
Old line. The one clamp is a more modern hose clamp so I guess the line is not original to the truck.

So Ross, is this carb a 2110? I will go to NAPA to get the rebuild kit. Their clerks know what they are doing.

It appears to be a 2110, but doesn't have the funky choke lever all of them I've seen have. It has a spark control valve, which is unique to 2110's AFAIK. If you look behind the glass bowl on the side of the carb, what is cast into it? Pic of 2110 below.
Almost all kits sold are for either the 94 or the 2110, i.e., they have gaskets for both.

I just ran out to the truck and was able to get my camera/phone behind the glass bowl and took a pic. It looks like EBV.

Here are pics of the carb on my 54.

Apparently there were some models of 94's that had 2110-like features. Does the EBV carb also have the spark control valve (arrow)?

Finally got around to taking a picture of my fuel pump. I'm not sure this is the original setup or not Abe, but it works for me

Thanks Dave. Yeah, I don't think that is the original fuel pump.

Update. I cleaned out the glass bowl filter, replaced the filter canister, and replaced the rubber fuel line.

I took it it out for a drive tonight. It still cuts out or stumbles when gas pedal is floored to climb a hill or to gain speed.

I ordered a carb rebuild kit from Midwest Early Ford. It will arrive on Tuesday.

Well.......it did have the original fuel pump till I dropped the glass bowl The gas lines configuration was my main point of sharing. I think you are making a good decision having the carb rebuilt. Can't wait for the update!

Oh, I see. Does your hard line run on top of the frame rail? My hard line on my 55 is hidden out of sight below the frame. On my 54 the hard line, what's left of it is above the frame. The last part was cut off and replaced with a rubber line. I should order a replacement from MidFifty or Midwest early Ford.

Here is a picture of just the end of the hard line sticking out from the frame.

Mine runs on top of the frame. Heck if you replace the line, you might as well replace the tank too

Mission Creep? Several years ago I took the sending unit off of the 54 tank and it was clean and shiny inside. This truck has never sat long unused allowing gas to varnish or separate so I think that's why it's good.

I will have to look into my 55 tank to see if that's where the black grit is coming from.

Howdy Abe!

A "bad" fuel pump in addition to not pumping enough fuel, can dump fuel directly into the crankcase, diluting the oil and raising the level over time if it leaks enough.

If you do not know how old your fuelpump is (I.E. it's really old), I would replace it along with the fuel line.

Either a Carter or an Airtex (I have the Airtex on my 292.....I like the integral filter.....)

https://www.autopartswarehouse.com/s...8L/AF6523.html

EDIT: I think the Carter is not right.........it appears to be for an L6

I looked back through your thread. Wnat engine is this? Is it an original 239/256 (with the original timing cover?) or is it a newer 272/292 or a 239 with a newer timing cover? That could make a difference.

I had a 239 and IIRC the fuel pump was possibly different from a "regular" (newer) Y-block fuel pump unless the timing cover is newer. There are many variations of 239 out there that have been changed over the years. (one of the reasons I wanted to get a newer 272/292 engine)

Cheers,

Rick

Thanks, Rick. It is the 239 and as far as I know it is the original engine. I have a carb rebuild kit on the way and I will check the points and plugs also.
