A comparison between 2014 and 2017+ builds

Visited a few dealer lots in the past few days looking at new trucks... I can't believe how cheaply constructed they feel now, compared to my 2014. Its like almost every aspect of the truck feels less hefty. From the seat thickness, to the flexible fuel tank cover, to the steering wheel wrap material.... the door entry handles, everything!

And to top it off, a comparable truck to what I have now is over $10k more in 4 years. Anyone else who has gotten into a new truck echo my sentiment, or am I a crazy, bitter old man?

Sorry man, but I think you are in the minority boat. The body and doors being aluminum will definitely feel lighter but the frame a rigidity is much more stout than a 14'. Test drive one and you'll notice it instantly..

I didn't mention the panels for obvious reasons (to me, its obvious that aluminum panels feel nothing like steel). It was everything else that makes up the truck, that I felt was of poorer quality. I understand that to shave weight, things need to change... but it felt like more of a toy than a truck.

Stick with your 2014 then. Personally my new 2018 is the best Ford I've ever owned, I'm loving it!

No comments on other aspects, but seat thickness, yes, thats one of the first things my wife noticed when we test drove.

With regards to the steering wheel wrap material, I actually like it. It seems more durable, and not susceptible to fingernail nicks or scratches. My 2011 Raptor steering wheel, the leather or whatever material it was, it wore right through on one spot where I would spin the wheel, and I wasn't happy about that. And another positive, the heated steering wheel on my new truck is really nice!

It's like two different trucks. The changes are innumerable. Overall, there's no comparison IMO. I've been in and around Ford SD's for a-while now with several family members in the business and the new rendition is definitely getting the accolades on interior, stance, ride quality, quietness, and capability.

I traded in my 2014 Lariat ultimate package for a 2017 Platinum ultimate package.......

Sticker was $83,000 and I did not care for the truck that much, I traded it in at 23000 miles, about 8000 miles was put on by my coworkers during the hurricanes in Florida and Texas.

It was a good truck did not have any mechanical issues with it, I just could not get comfortable in it. I put 51,000 on my 2017 F550 and still climbing, don't even have 600 on my 2018 XLT premium package yet.

To me the lesser option trucks are more comfortable I guess.

Of the 15 super Dutys I've owned since 99, my 08 and my 14 where my favorite.

The steering wheel leather does feel cheap and mine is already peeling badly.

Between my 2013 super duty and my 2017, I would take the new one every time .

A 2016 F250 doesnt look that much different than a 1999 F250. Its kind of crazy how long they kept that body. The 2017+'s look infinitesimally better than those old trucks imo. Fit and finish are a lot better than my last F250, maybe I got lucky (or maybe my last one was junk?) but I'd take the current body style over any 16 and lower out there. Hands down, no question about it.

Well its a company truck, so the decision is not totally mine (though my father owns the place, and I am #2). They moved my 14 out today for a leftover 17 F350 CCSB Powerstroke. I'll have to learn to love it!

The only item that feels cheaper are the door handles. Other than that the frame quality and engineering is much improved. The seats on mine are vinyl but seem to be thick and well stiched.
