Waste of money, but it's up to you.
If the fuel is that bad that the filters are plugged in 1000 Mi, you have bigger problems.
I get that it's your new truck, but it will be fine.

I would open the drain on the lower filter and see if there is any water.

 

X2, and do it every month like clockwork. If it is gunky fuel and water mix that comes out the first time I would not worry about it, but would drain again in 2 weeks. If just clear fuel and a bit of water, or clear fuel, this second time, all is ok and run for 15-20k miles depending upon how much you tow, draining a water test sample every month. If still a mix of gunk and fuel, change the filters but add some biocide first - see below.

I have had 3 of these with 100k miles and never experienced gunk come out of the drain, and only very rarely a few water droplets. But all it takes is once, thus every month a bit is drained off into a clear cup - actually a translucent plastic bowl. Ususlly, but not when i have not driven much, I back the drain plug out to a point where fuel comes out not just through the drain but also past the seal on the stem/****. Water is a killer.

6 month old bio-fuel can be a problem with alge growth. Not likely in cold weather or with little fuel in the tank. A single treatment with biocide should clean it up. I gunk comes out, i would add that, fill the tank and run for 100 miles before changing the filters.

 

it should have had an oil change by the dealer though...filters, just drain and see. I'd change them at around 10K though.

 

Way over thinking it. I bought a leftover 16 that sat on the lot for 11 months with a 1/4 tank of fuel in it, ran just fine during the test drive. Dropped the factory oil at 5k miles and changed the fuel filters at 12k miles, no problems whatsoever.

 

Enjoy the truck. Follow the manufacturers recommendations in the book and you will get many years of enjoyment from your truck

 

 

That's only 6 months - plenty of experience with much longer layup periods here on the boards.. Absolutely nothing to worry about for fuel or oil. Your choice of course how you want to spend your money, but there really isn't a "start fresh again". The truck IS fresh right now with only 300 miles on it. Enjoy it, change at the recommended interval.

 

 

I agree with draining the fuel from the filter after your first tank of diesel. After that drain monthly and enjoy the ride.

My truck is going on 6 years and 145k miles and it runs like a top and it sat on a dealer lot for a little longer than yours. Did first oil change at 3,500 miles and fuel filters at 15k miles.

 

 

I just did my second fuel filter change and I have 52.000 miles on my truck. I see no issues with the main filter at all. I have fueled up at many different stations in many different states since the last filter change so I go about 26.000 miles on the filters. No dirt or water in the fuel as far as i could see. Filter was gray so it was doing its job. As for the oil i have a GT500 and only change the oil once a year. I don't drive it more than 1,500 miles a year. Your truck came with synthetic oil which makes all the difference. Personally I would continue that practice even though it's way more expensive around $200. I find synthetic is better for the gaskets and seals.
