This reminds me of that class I failed in chemical engineering school.

Change the radiator, add 50/50 mix, run for an hour at speed, and check it.

My my experience with various engines is less than 50/50 down to 35% coolant is fine for a while but corrosion will occur at this low a concentration.

The problem with with greater than 60% is lack of heat transfer from the engine to the water/coolant mixture.

My 2 cents.

Are you plugging the radiator lines before removing them? If not you will draining coolant/mixture from the hoses and the block too.

When I put in a new radiator I did a flush anyway since the radiator was all new surfaces that had not been wetted yet. Flushed with distilled water, put in coolant concentrate (1/2 system volume...looks like 3.5 gallons in your case), then finished off with distilled water. Voila, 50/50 mix!

It's not less expensive but it is easier.

May be less expensive than doing it 2 or 3 times and testing each time.
