HELP with 01 7.3 intermediate rough running
My 01 F-250 7.3 with 265,000 mi. was running great until about 3 weeks ago. It cranks and idles fine but 'sometimes', usually when hot, runs very rough with no power and blows white/blue rich diesel smelling smoke. when cursing with the cruise control on it 'hiccups' occasionally at highway speeds.
Its shows NO codes when scanned by a certified FORD tech with a Ford computer/scanner.
New fuel filter installed, no help,
New fuel tank strainer installed no help,
Replaced the PCM no help.
Removed the DPTuner no help.
My mechanic says everything is within spec's when its scanned, all 8 cylinders are 'balanced'. I'm thinking it could be an injector hanging open but hate to spend big bucks replacing injectors with KNOWING that's the problem.
We are at a loss as to what could be causing this problem as it's throwing NO codes, even when it's acting up. I'm going to replace the Blue International CPS with a gray Ford CPS today to see if that could possibly be the problem.
If anyone has any ideas please share them.

Sounds like a dying fuel pump. A fuel pressure gauge would help here. My understanding is pumps usually just quit rather than work intermittently, but the symptoms and especially the lack of CEL is typical for fuel pump failure. The intermittent failure could indicate a pump wiring issue rather than the pump itself.
