GLASS INSTALL PRICES

I've been checking around looking for someone to install windshield and rear glass... I have the glass and the gaskets in hand.... so far prices are 300-400 bucks !!!!!

is it just me or does that sound a little high ??? the whole truck full of glass was less than that.

Google “roping glass in cars” or something like that. You and a bud can do it yourself.

We've had several days of 70° but last couple days have been really cold in comparison ,46° now and dropping to 26° tonight but it's greening up pretty good now and the ice is off the lakes..

Do the back window first to get the feel of it John just remember the back one goes in from the inside and roped from the outside and opposite for the windshield..

Where can I buy a tube of butyl? In the last week I've tried Advance Auto, NAPA, the local Car Quest, and Federated Car Parts and none of them have it. I guess I'll have to buy one from MidFifty and pay the shipping.

You should be able to get it from an auto glass shop but they might have to order it in. Dominion Sure Seal makes it..

Try the hardware store, Sold as gutter and flashing sealer.

If you don't feel comfortable doing it yourself with a helper, it shouldn't cost more than $100-125.00 to install. Find a local glass shop and ask if an experienced installer wants a side job.

Regards, Mark

HI Mark... last bid was 300 for the front and he'd cut me a break on the back since it was flat... 150.00 I thanked him nicely
cheapest bid I got was 300 for both. 3 places wouldn't do it.

found a nice young man in the hood here that used to do them for a living.. we're trying to get our schedules together now

I did all the windows myself without help. The side windows were easy. The front window was more difficult because of the SS strips and positioning of the glass by myself. I did not use any sealer.

The rear big window was difficult due to its curvature and the SS Strips. When you do it only once, you have no technique. I got the rear window in except for the middle molding lip and then tried to pound it in with a rubber hammer.; a $500 lesson. The picture in my signature was taken with the cracked window before the new one with SS strips was installed.

I took the new rear window to a glass shop. They charged $75 total and had it done in less than an hour. I asked about the front window because I bought an 8” tinted version as a replacement; the same price - $75.

The glass shop has done a lot of custom rods since antiques are prevalent in my area. However, one caveat, they said if they broke the window, basically, too bad. The rear window is laminate; they told me tempered glass could tolerate more stress without breaking.

Good Luck
