For lack of a better word, the looks of the new f-150 are hideous. I and my family have been faithful ford owners for years, and it kills me to see them falling into the same pit of ugliness that chevy and dodge did. I think that ford should have left things the way they were. The 1999-2003 look was beautiful, and now they're ruining everything.

The '04 150 is much better looking in my opinion. I share the opinion of many professional car review folks. The thinking is, the old F-150 is too feminine looking. Looks more like a car on the outside and a truck on the inside. The '04 is the opposite. More like a truck on the outside and a car on the inside, the way it should be. If it weren't for the redesign of the 150 for '04, I'd probably be buying a GMC. Since the 150 looks much better now, I'll be buying the '04 Lariat 4x4. If there's an ugly truck on the lot somewhere today, I'd have to say it's the Chevy Silverado. Bland interior and goofy looking front. Bland sides and rear. Yuck.

I have looked at several 2004 F-150's. I like the interiors.
The exterior I am still warming up to, particularly the sides. It seems to large / tall and blank on the sides. I have not seen a 2 tone paint job on the new F-150 in person yet.
On saturday the wife and I were on the highway headed back to Phoenix from Tucson on our motorcycle. I had the cruise set at 86mph(speed-O reads high)
I see a bright red something coming up fast and as it passes us I see it a 2004 extra-cab F-150. First time i had seen an 04 actually on the road, not a dealers lot.
The truck does not look bad going down the road.

I checked out the 04's last month on the local dealer's back lot trying to decide whether to wait or pick up an 03 with all the rebates. I thought it looked like an oversized Explorer Sport from the front and very boxy from the back (The extra 3" on the side make for a BIG box). I went with the 03 and love it but I must admit I didn't like "That" body style when it first came out in 97. I guess Ford wants to do the Macho Truck thing much like they did with the F250 and up.

as for exterior looks, i prefer the series that ended in 1996 but IMO the 04 is a great improvement over the 03 style. I will trade my 97f150 in for an 04 once the rebates kick in. The 04 lariats in particular are really nice, altho very costly $$$$$.

My personal opinion: The 1997-2003 F-150's were hideous and I wouldn't buy one except for my girlfriend/wife. They look too girly to me (girlfriends favourite years) and I appologize to those who have them and like them.
The last year I liked was 79 (go figure) and the new ones I do like, alot more plastic then I like (let me again refer you to my 79) but compared to whats on the market they are by far the best looking truck. I like the big huge grills on the dodge trucks but it ends there, I dont like how they are more show then go (or work for that matter) and I like the super duty's and maybe its just me but doesn't anybody think the new f-150 has a bit of a resemblance to the SD's ? Hence the reason I like it.
Anyway just my $0.02
Oh and the depth of the box, now thats nice.

The 04's are going to take some "gettin" used to" but, as Webmaster pointed out, any change takes mind adjustment before it "looks right". I think I've finally gotten so the 97-03 150's aren't bad but I never have accepted the 78's with that massively ugly grille and the round headlights
Interestingly a lot of GM people are looking at the new 150's saying something to the effect that they can't handle the GM's any longer. I think that Aztec poison'd the waters @ GM

Have you people actually walked up and closely inspected them? I test drove one the other day and closely looked at all the levels and cab config's and I loved them all. The bed isnt too deep to me the rear end is just too high to get your shoulder over. I'm 5'10 and could barely touch the bottom of the bed on an FX4. I think they look great and hopefully will sell. latr
