65 or 66 F-250 Camper ?

I just got a F-250 the guy I bought it from said it was a 66 but the title says 65. It also has a spot for two batteries and 3 gas tanks. Right now I'm just trying to figure out what I'm working with. I want to put in power steering so my wife can drive it. I noticed lots of info for converting a F-100 will the same stuff work with the F-250? I'm totally new to this type of fun.

As I told you when I decoded your VIN and Warranty Plate (it's a 1966), the saddle tanks and dual batteries are not original to your truck, were added by a previous owner.

P/S not available in 1965 F100/250 2WD

Bendix P/S: 1966/68 F250 2WD; 1969 F100/250 2WD before serial number D96,001.

Ford/Saginaw P/S: 1969 F100/250 2WD & F350 from serial number D96,001; 1970/79 F100/250 2WD & F350.

You will also have to change the steering column, as the steering shaft is a different length: manual vs power.

Most people swap in the Ford/Saginaw unit. The Bendix unit is troublesome and the seal kits are obsolete, very hard to find and expensive if found.

THREE different P/S pumps. 1966 is 1966 only, 1967/77 uses the Ford/Thompson pump that has a steel reservoir. P/S pressure hose threads onto the pump.

1978/79's use the Ford C-II pump. Has a plastic reservoir, the P/S pressure hose connects to the pump w/a qwik connect fitting.

The C-II pump is a different shape than the Ford/Thompson pump, so uses specific mounting brackets.

There are no C-II pump mounting brackets with 360/390 engines, because both of these FE engines were cancelled after 1976.

Crop Duster is gaining momentum as a positive member of FTE.
PS Pump

You can easily modify the Ford Thompson bracket to mount a CII pump. The bolt pattern and shaft are the same. I had to use a CII pump on my Cleveland for clearance on the headers.

Thanks

Thanks guys and NumberDummy for the V I N decoding I hadn't seen the old thread. I'm very new to this forum type of thing. I'm off to the junk yard when I have another day off work. I'll try to figure out how to post a photo of what we are working on. My 15 year old son has a year before he gets his license. The count down started Sunday afternoon when we drove her home.
