272 Engine or a 302 Engine MONEY!!!!
Kevin
We decided a long time ago not to worry much about pleasing anyone here. We all have our concept of what we do or don't like to see done to these Effies of course. Most of the regulars here are used to the act. I'm sure I get on people nerves here, but it would be hard to come here everyday for years if it wasn't for all the clowning around, all the conversations would be..... Nice truck Bob, nice truck George, Fred, tighten her to 100 foot pounds, check your connuter valve. It would get a little stale after 500 posts or so. Especially when your truck is finished.
I regard George as a closer friend then my next door neighbor, yet we have only met for a couple hours on two occasions and have about zero common interest in trucks beyond the fact that they are 50's Fords. Because of the clowning around, we are drawn to each others threads that don't concern us otherwise. Although he has zero desire to ever install a Volare, I think the guy could put one in just because he has to check the Volare thread in case he's been attacked. Conversely, I have to watch the Y-block threads for cheap shots on 302s.
Kevin, I would like to see PICs of your Y-block when you can. You've been coming around for quite a while and I haven't a clue what you own, built, bought etc.
What the hell was my point anyway. Oh yeah, you guys are great and BigWins probably packin a Chevy 305.

Fenders , y'all gonna have to call your 302 a SBF so we all know it is the SMALL one!

My 302 is punched. A 308 now as I recall. So I guess we'll just call your Y a Heavy 302 or something else like that. It does complicate things. While I got your ear, my 351 Bronco pulls like you wouldn't believe. Someday the engine is going to end up in my 53 and I'll be eatin' crow like the guy from Canada. The Bronco won't outrun the Effie in a drag, but there is a 1000 pound weight difference. Wish I could do it over again. I read about stroker 351s pulling unreal torque numbers. I did see you admitted a 302 would actually move an Effie the other day. It's a start. Your 302 therapy is coming along painfuly slow but we got time. I wish you were closer so I could take you for a ride in a modded 302. OK, so it just feels like a 351W with a cam.

Just get the PICs up when you can. Kevin will be about the fifth guy I pressured into posting a gallery. You wanna hack, 'fenders you gots to show us the money.

Fenders,
You're absolutely right about not pleasing everyone. I only recently found this site, but at least it seems like everyone here has an open mind and a good sense of humor. The way I see it, as long as you're happy with your own vehicle, that's all that matters. I've been to alot of shows and cruises, and I've seen all kinds of cars, trucks, ...and people. I've met the kind that appreciate the work you've done to your truck, and the kind that treat you like an outcast unless you have their exact opinion. As for the y-block/302 argument, they both have their strong and weak points. For pulling a heavy trailer or the like, I'd rather run an old y-block than a 302. Of course, I don't mind that it'll take twice as long to get where I'm going. On the other hand, I love the way my 302 Bronco runs. Let's just say it isn't hard to merge onto the parkway. And for a job like dragging a 15 ton tank retriever, I wouldn't trade my '50 with it's '73 Lincoln 460 and super low gears (I've started it out in 4th!) for anything. Of course, I wouldn't want to drive it every day. There's something about not ever going over 60 and having to refinance my house to put gas in it that I just don't like. But for a toy, or for occasional heavy pulling, it's great. Now, Bigwin had a point...build the truck to suit you. I like all kinds, stock and modified. My '50 is not stock at all. The Bronco is mostly stock, except for the '71 motor. I also have a '49 Studey 3/4 ton that used to be a service truck for an old dealership, and it's dead stock. Sometimes I like the nostalgic feel of driving the old stock Stude with no A/C...or radio, and sometimes I like driving the old '50. That's my problem...I can't make up my mind!
