Frankenstein truck!!

Hello fellow ford truck guys and gals! Long time creeper of the forums and first time poster. About a year ago I purchased a 85 f150 to basically have a beer run truck. It ran decently, looked nice, and was super cheap (1200). Now after various oil leaks and other old truck problems, ended up yanking the motor the other day (302) and started a full rebuild. I have a hankering for 61 - 65 f100ís and keep an eye out at all times for the right project to come along. My question is.. with the rebuilt 302 and a c6 tranny, how realistic is it to drop that combo into an older f100? Been reading quite a bit and everyone seems to have a different story.

Btw, this forum has gifted so much invaluable info for us younger guys getting into older cars. Super grateful for that and please keep it up!!

Welcome to FTE. If you go 65-66 2whl dr you can get 302 motor mount out of 69-79 trucks ( I cannot remember when the first year of a 302 offered in a truck was). The C6 is built tough but is likely overkill for a 302 and will rob power. You can swipe the tranny crossmember and front disk brakes and power steering from the same donor truck. If you go with 61-64 those trucks had front engine mounts not the side towers so you will have to either fab something up or hope there is an aftermarket kit available.

302: 1969/79 F100; 1975/79 F150 (all 2WD).

C4 available in all of the above, C6 was an option beginning in 1978.

understood. Never thought about the c6 being too sturdy, will keep an eye out for a c4. Is there any stock in the pulling the front clip from a donor mustang or crown Vic? See people trying to hawk the build on Craigslist all the time and seems a little strange.

It's been done here many times and kind of depends on who you talk to whether to put any stock in the CV swap. If you want to lower the front and improve handling over what was available 50 years ago, it is a good and fairly inexpensive option. However, many restomods like this are not always a popular option with certain folks. You'll find a pretty good mix of both camps around here.

Anything else I should be looking to steal from the donor truck? Will probably scrap or part out when itís all said and done.
