New alternator not charging

Finally got my rebuilt 351w in the truck and now having issues with the charging system. Tried a brand new altrnalter and a working voltage regulator out of a friend's Torino. The plug to the voltage regulator has continuity to the back of the alternator. Any tips on where else to look? The red "GEN" light is lit constantly with the key on.

Edit: should also add that the ignition switch is not working. It'll turn the truck on and it's been starting by jumping the solenoid, could bypassing that ignition switch cause the alternator not to kick on?
