ESP -- Purchase or not purchase. Why
#16
Bought my truck from a dealership, they wanted to sell me the ESP for $1500. But it only gave me the "new car" warranty coverage up to 2021 or so. I still have another year on the new car warranty and 4 on powertrain, so I didn't want to get it. I'll probably only put 10K miles a year on this truck.
I've never owned anything with a warranty and I can tackle most stuff. Plus my car insurance has rental car reimbursement and roadside assistance so I don't really need to double up on that.

Let us all be reminded that after the deal has been struck and the hand shaking has finished, there is still work to be done in order to wrap the deal up.
1. You are offered an ESP or similar and many other dealer added items, ALL OF WHICH CAN BE NEGOTIATED or simply declined.
2. The deal isn't set in stone until the terms are offered and agreed upon OR, you offer your own method of payment / financing.
Going into these deals pre-approved or with financing terms already in place makes the F&I guy squirm just a little bit. This deal ain't done till you say it is.

This is actually the best thing to do. I have had my truck for a year and a half, plan on buying an extended warranty through Flood Ford this time next year. It will cost me $1600.00. When I purchased my truck, the exact same plan was $2800.00. They rob you if you buy an extended warranty through the dealership. The extended warranty obviously doesn't come into effect until 3 years later or 36K miles anyway, except the power train is even longer. It makes no sense to buy a warranty when you purchase unless you want to finance it, but it costs much more in the end.

I purchased a 2018 in January, and thought I would purchase the Flood Ford extended warranty. But after reading the other posts here, I found that waiting until the third year of ownership I could buy the same Premium Care warranty for only $100 more. 6 years with 75,000 miles and $100 deductible would be $1005. I bought an extended for my 2012 and it paid off. Many repairs were covered beyond the original warranty.

Have about 25 days to the arrival of my truck, wanted to know if any of you had purchased an ESP so I can get my ducks in a roll before the finance guy telling me his sells pitch. What I have researched, it seems the packages cover most thing that don't usually have issues and don't cover all the new technology and electronics (am more interested in covering, 8" screen, Park Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, 360 camera, Trailer assist, etc.). I know that you don't have to purchase it at the signing (he might say, you will pay more), but before the 36,000/3 years expires (right). I am also aware they are after market companies as well, a lot, so do tell me if you chose this type.
sidebar... why do you need one if the truck is the number one sold and built tuff, why buy your truck if your suggesting a ESP - do you have issues with the trucks....
Anything you can give me to better educate myself in this arena will be greatly appreciated

I paid 1,600 bucks recently for a new steering rack on a ‘13, I’d like to have had an esp but I’m fairly certain they would’ve found a way to not cover anyway, blamed it on the lift, tire size etc... I’ll probably ditch this truck if something else significant pops up in the next couple of years, if not then I think it’ll cross into the lifer territory and I’ll keep this one til I’m an old man.
