I have two trucks with this setup and one has ceramic coated up pipes and I can not tell a difference in spool up.

I'm not surprised, the videos I have seen show fairly quick spool at all times. 7.3l of displacement does good things for turbos.

I've used VHT ceramic paint products with good results. VHT Flameproofâ„¢ Coating -- High Heat Coating

Unfortunately i can attest to VHT paint not holding up to the heat of the stock turbine housing even after following the cure process. But at least it isn't rusted like before. Now it has a light tan appearance instead of the red it was once finished

I am envisioning black on the CAC tubes, up-pipes, T4 bracket and down-pipe. Then silver on the turbine housing. I will be using the VHT because ceramic coating is not in the budget.

This will be more of a rust preventative, even though I do live in GA. I have seen cast iron parts turn orange in a very short period of time.

Why not wrap the up pipes with header wrap and buy a turbo snail blanket? dont even bothering painting the snail exhaust housing, paint wont last with the heat, and if even the slightest drop of water, fuel or coolant falls on it when hot the paint will come of instantly ask how me how I know...

Since I haven't moved the truck in a month I figured I'd go look and make sure no one stole my real sxe. 😁

Here is a shot of the exhaust housing with 3k miles of towing.

This is my new course of action. I may wrap the up-pipes just to try and keep the heat around the firewall down and it is cheap and easy, but no painting (other than the CAC tubes, which the passenger side is painted already) will be taking place.

The Brad was nice enough to send me a picture of his turbo as well and it looks a lot like what Akcooper9 posted.

Genuine Borg Warner turbine arrived today. There is a dramatic difference in weight and appearance in the lines between this and the Smeding Diesel turbine. In addition, the color is darker on the BW, not sure if that means anything though.

A few other pieces arrive today from Amazon as well, but they are boring.

When I ordered my CSD kit, I considered wrapping the up pipes, but decided to have them ceramic coated after reading this: https://www.centuryperformance.com/e...o-not-use.html

When I asked Carson about it, he said he’s never had a problem with wrapped pipes, so take that for what it’s worth.

I was actually reading that same article a while ago. Unfortunately, ceramic coating is not in the budget.

I will do more research on the wrap, and make a decision from there. Thanks for your input from Carson had though.

All I know is I am damn glad I made the call to get the BW turbine.

EDIT: I have decided against the wrap as well. Just going to run the parts as they come to me in a box. Reason being is that the wrap must be sealed or painted with the proper spray coat or it could potentially absorb oil and fuel if/when there is a leak. The chances of a catastrophic event occuring are too great of a chance for just a cosmetic change. Ceramic coating is by far the best way to keep parts free from rust and reduce temperatures. VHT is a no go, too many horror stories out there. Wrapping is too great of a risk for very little gain in cosmetic or temperature differences.

We used the vht ceramic coat stuff on my brothers turbo and baked it in oven like directions say and I’ll half to ask but around the 10,000 mile mark I’m thinking it still looks as good as when we put it on.

Just stumbled across this. First kc I have seen with a problem.

Also saw 2 for sale used over on another forum. Forgot if kc38r or gtp38r. One had bellowed up pipes with it. I just found it interesting that these are popping up for sale used .
