Right now with the bag aired up I have 5" in between the rails and the front of the 5er, there is less room at the tailgate. I'm going to order the B&W Ball as its taller, and also drop the goose box down another set of holes. that should give me what I need. I know for a fact I didn't have 7" on my last truck, I wish I was smart enough to take a measurement.

Thanks for the link RV_Tech. I'm trying not to put too much money in this 5er as we will be upgrading next year. But if its what I have to do I will do it.

Do you have the 6 1/2 ft bed or the full 8 ft. bed on your F250? I have been seriously thinking about changing out my hitch on the camper to the Reese 20K goosebox hitch and selling my slider hitch I have now. I just not sure if the goosebox hitch will work with my 6 1/2 ft. bed. I have the Ford puck system so hopfully I will be able to just drop in the ball into the center hole and hook the camper up with worrying if the trailer is going to hit the back of the truck if backing up into a tight space...............

I will be curious to see how the goosebox works with the 6.5' bed. I currently run the goosebox (love it!) on my 8' bed and feel like it has been close when in some jackknife positions. We fulltime and move pretty frequently...so lots of opportunities to get in hairy (read tight and off camber) situations! Having had both a 6.5" bed as well as the 8' and having used a demco hijacker slider, the andersen, and the goosebox, I would hands-down use the andersen if I had anything less than an 8' bed simply because you get the offset to the rear and it tows like a dream. YMMV of course!

My 06 was a short bed and I can tell you that you will hit the cab if you're using the goose box. My 5er even has the cut outs on the front of the nose cone to make turns easier, but I still hit, not much but it happened. I love the way the goose box tows, no chunking bucking or anything like that. I cant wait to sort this thing out and tow my trailer with the new truck. Itll be nice to not have to monitor temps, and watch all the stuff I used to, just set the cruise and drive.

The guy that runs the Big Truck Big RV channel had the same issue going to a Reese GooseBox on his 2018 F-450. Raised Ball was the answer for him.

Hope the above video helps some.

I feel ya there....I watched our temps like a hawk - full tablet on the dash with Torque....anyway - one day I watched them go the WRONG way headed up into Asheville. (hmmm why is ECT all of a sudden so much higher then EOT? hmmmmm) Traded the 6.0 in with EGR and both head-gaskets toast for the 17....didnt get much for trade when it arrives on a flatbed...

Havent looked at the temps once on the 17 since..just an amazingly different towing experience...you'll be blown away.

I cant wait. Honestly I haven't put many miles on the truck since I bought it last year, I think its got 501 miles on it. We are taking a small trip next week to PA to see my aunt and take the mini me to Hershey Park and some other stuff. Were going to take the truck so I can get some miles on it before we hit the road for the beach in July and August and some local camping in the Fall. Usually we camp for Memorial Day but I wanted to do something different this year.

Ok,

So to put this thread to bed here is what I did to get the clearance I needed. I bought a Curt ball, and dropped my pin box down to the lower set of holes, when I added the air to the bag I was able to get 8.5" all the way around the bed. For me that's good as I don't do any off pavement camping.

I hope everyone's enjoying the summer, safe travels.
