2010 Escape V-6 - alternator placement?

Hi all - I own a 2005 V6 Escape, and am going to look at a 2010 low mileage V6 Escape. When I had to change the alternator in the 2005 it was the worst job I have EVER done. Check Youtube on this. Does anyone know if they relocated the alternator in the 2010 V6 to make the job easier? After the torture on the 2005 I am hesitant to get another with the issue - if they haven't I will factor that into the price if I make an offer. Thanks!

I did an alternator in my '02 and I used the "top" method for removal/installation - not a horrible job.

If I'm not mistaken, the 09-12 V6 Escapes have a relocated alternator (my '12 does anyway) to the front of the engine. Looks much easier to service if required.

Haven't had to do mine on my 2001 - but I suspect the "top" method may be for left hand drive only, on a right hand drive the brake master cylinder and booster are right where that video shows him clearing space...if/when I have to do it I'll investigate whether there is room to bring the alt out round the end of the engine and up over the gearbox but I suspect the exhaust may prevent that.

May have to pop the driveshaft after all...

My thoughts too, but I wasn't going to let drum brakes ruin the deal.

Why not? Drum brakes on the rear are a good engineering choice, you only really <need> discs on the rear if you have electronic stability control where you need the rear brakes to have less slack in the mechanism, the coarser control required for ABS is fine. Other than that you won't find rear drums overstressed due to the weight transfer, especially under heavy/emergency braking where the rears do almost nothing. My 2001 Tribute has rear drums, no issue in service.

Does anybody know how to take off the alternator from a 08 escape the one with the alternator in front?

Sould be simple enough if its like my '12. Looks like once the belt is loose, the rest is splash guard removal and easy from there.
