I found this old school headlight buzzer at an estate sale and I'd love to install it but I'm utterly confused at the "directions" that came with it. I thought one of you might help me unravel these mysterious and cryptic directions. They read as follows "For negative ground auto, connect the red wire of the unit to the instruments dash wire. Connect the black lead to the oil pressure switch if there is an indicator light, or connect to the Arm. lead (sometimes referred to as Gen. lead) of the regulator box."
What's even more puzzling is the wire connectors that are on the unit. They came curled and I'm thinking it might be for slipping under a fuze end. Anyway, if anyone has any information or ideas to share, I'd appreciate it! BTW, my truck is a 1964 F100 with a strait 6 223. No oil pressure switch I believe. My neighbors are tired of telling me I've left my lights on!
I do have an oil pressure light. I just tried a temp connection with said light with the other side grounded but no buzz. What do you suppose they mean by "instruments dash wire"? Alligator clips are a good idea, thanks John
I would think that the "instruments dash wire" would be the hot wire' that goes to the instrument panel lights' when the light switch is on.
I would assume this also. The oil pressure light gets power when the key is turned on, the light turns on because it is grounded through the pressure switch with the engine off. When the engine starts oil pressure opens the switch and the oil pressure light goes off. Connecting to this lead would mean the light buzzer would sound any time the light switch is on and the engine does not have oil pressure, ie when you shut off the engine. You could always add an oil pressure switch if your truck doesn't have one. Any 12VDC buzzer or chime could be used with these connections to create a lights on reminder.
