So for “next guy” reasons may I see if I have it right? Using the below cart, a stock 5 1/2” wide widow maker has 9/16” of positive offset according to Budd, and a backspace calculation of 2 3/4” (rim C/L), + 1/2” rear rim lip, + 9/16” (positive offset) = 3 13/16” backspace.

I’m editing out what I said first because I think I’m confused. You say you added 1/2” of backspace to 3 13/16” which yields a 4 5/16” backspace. That puts the offset figure to 5/16”. Is that right? Stu

Stu,

To confirm the correct number, we will have to pull a wheel... should have actually measured before.
We will reply as soon as we can get a wheel off [in the next few days, hopefully].

Per Tim, @ Collins, he was sure the Backspacing was originally 3-1/2", and now it would be 4"...

truckdog62563, we may splitting hairs, but it is - pretty much - as you have worked out in your previous post.

Splitting fractions doesn’t matter. Plus, the use of 1/2” for the rear rim lip is a commonly used generic figure that may or may not be exactly right in all cases. Thanks. Stu

Stu,

Let me apologize, for not following what you wrote, rather I chose to opine on that which I thought I read.

The only numbers that I had to work with were the following;

3.5" Backspace [original*]
4.0" Backspace [replacement*]

* = per Shop

5.5" Rim Width [original]
7.0" Rim Width [replacement]

So... if the original rim had an offset of 0.75" [+/-], then the replacement rim should have an offset of 0.50" [+/-], as comparing a 2.75" center-line vs. 3.5" center-line.

I hope this actually makes better sense...

Wm.
