Direct bolt in Dana 70 SRW into 78 F-250?

You gotta explain this to me like I'm five years old. Ive asked this question before, and got a lot of mixed responses. Search function got me close, but not the exact answer I'm looking for. I do not have the time or resources to cut off brackets and move mounts around using later model/ box truck/ van etc D70s, so So.....

Is there any donor vehicle that I can use to get a direct fit, straight bolt-in dana 70 single rear wheel to replace my D60? Its going into a 78 F-250 4x4.

Thanks again FTE!

Don't like the D60? Is it broke?

Anyway, I think E 250/350 had/have the D70s. Direct bolt in...not positive about what years. Have you considered what gear ratio......?

Mine came from a mid 80's diesel 4x4 and I didn't have to mess with the spring pads. The only thing I had to change was the shock mounts but if I had went to the parts store I probably could have looked up different shocks and found some from something else that would have bolted in but they are just too simple to make and weld on. The Dana 60 yoke fit right on but I had to shorten the drive shaft. Make sure you get the U bolts and top plates with it because the housing is bigger. The E brake cables worked too.

Before you get a Dana 70 from an F350, measure the distance between the inner frame rails behind the cab.

Your F250 measures 37 1/2" but some F350's are 33 1/2" .. some are 37 1/2."

I'm not aware that a Dana 70 from a E350 will work on an F350. The part number for a E350 axle housing is different than an F350.

Car-part.com shows 83-85 F350 SRW PU, not C&C, as having a D70 option. IDK if it's 100% bolt in.

A Ford/Sterling is not a direct bolt in. I have one in my 79 now and do like it especially since it was free. Bad part is driveshaft will need shortened and can't use D60 ebrake cables. I ran the cables to the outside of the driver side frame like the 90's truck to make it work. The center pull cable has enough extra to do it.

I had a ‘77 F350 2wd camper special. Stripped it for parts. It had a D70 factory limited slip with 4.10 gears. I almost kept it to put it in my ‘77 F150 4x4. Spring mounts measured identical etc...but instead of having to change the front spindles over to 8 lug to match I sold the D70 for $300.

The Sterling 10.25/10.5 is just as good and available well into the 2000s with 8 x 6.5 bolt pattern in the vans. A 97-down F series Sterling 10.25 would also be a direct bolt in.
Sterling 10.25" introduced in 1985 F250 H/D & F350, but the Dana 60/61-1 was available in F250's thru 1986, ditto the Dana 70 in F350's.

How many E250/350's came with the Sterling 10.25? None that I'm aware of.

No 10.25s, but 2005?+ e series have 10.5 srw axles. That's why I wrote it as "The Sterling 10.25/10.5....." I probably could have worded it better, I edited my response.
