Spark Plugs for 17+ 6.2
Hi All
I picked up a used, high milage (for it's age) 17 F250 6.2 a few days ago. The salesman told me the new style plugs are good for 150k mi. The truck has 79k mi, and I thought I'd change them out anyway. I couldn't find much doing a search on 17+. Would you go back with the Motorcraft plugs or is there another brand that would be better? Sounds like the older pickups are having trouble getting the plugs out without breakage, would it be beneficial to run a dab of anti-sieze on the new ones?
Thanks

Now, I'm no expert on the 6.2 (mine is being built), but I learned a long time ago that Ford motors like Motorcraft spark plugs. The extra little bit they cost is well worth it considering you won't touch them again for another 100k.
And as far as the 150k interval? I'd still change mine at 80-100k. What does the owners manual say?

The manual in my 2018 says 97k miles (that's not a typo). Go to www.motorcraftservice.com and look up the manual for yours.
With 79k miles on them, I'd do them now for sure. The 6.2L is a great motor but is actually known to be a bit hard on plugs. Many will change them between 50k to 75k miles. Also, there are 16 of them (two per cylinder). when the plugs go bad, it tends to cause incomplete burn and then the hot gases mess with the Cats and then the $$$ really piles up fast! Change them as soon as you get the truck. Starting with cold engine, warm it up a bit for a few minutes (not full temp; just warm). then change the plugs. Yes- anti-seize.
Autolite has a really great rebate on right now for plugs; $3 back per plug for the iridium plugs! I got mine at RockAuto for cheap, and then with the rebate they were dirt cheap!
PS - 150k miles on plugs my butt; your salesman is an idiot!

Possible? Yes.
Probable? No.
The OP mentioned "miles" more than once. I have to think the salesman was also ...
IIRC in some of the older manuals it was 100k miles. But with the newer 7.5k mile maintenance cycle interval, it fell to 97.5k miles; otherwise it would have gone to 105k miles ....

Thanks for the help guys, ordered some (16) plugs. The dealer did certify this used truck and gave me a year warranty and still have the remainder of the 100k powertrain. Going to stick with motorcraft plugs to avoid any potential warranty issues for now. I did read the 97k mile change in the book yesterday. Hopefully plugs solve the ever so slight intermittent vibration change in the cab. I didn't noticed it until yesterday. Maybe some seafoam will help. Or maybe it's normal, I haven't ever been around the 6.2 before. Had a v10 years ago that you could set a cup of coffee on. I'll check out the older SD pages, Thanks again!
