97 F250HD no heat
1997 F250HD 7.3 turbo diesel, no heat at the vents, temp gauge comes up to about 1/3, replaced thermostat with factory replacement (believe it is 185 degree. No other issues with truck, it seems to warm up not sure how to read temp gauge. Still no heat at vents, floor, defroster or dash vents, not AC cold just outside temp chilly, this seems no matter wear the temp range selector is placed, not sure where inside cab temp sensor is located or how to check, any help greatly appreciated

The possibilities are
a) Something has fallen into the dash vents and is preventing the diverter doors from completely closing.
b) Heater core is plugged. Do both hoses get warm?
c) New heater core was very poorly installed with nothing to seal it from the outside.
d) PO disconnected the heater hoses.

Not sure I understand
a) good airflow weather defroster, heater or dash vent selected, just chilly air, minimal heat is felt through any of the ducts in the cab
b) possibility here, I will check the hoses, question, if the core were clogged how would it affect the rest of the engine cooling, again there is no engine overheat condition
c) heater core is has not been replaced or tampered with, I am only owner and bought truck new in January 1997, this issue is new within the last year.
d) heater hoses are properly connected, see (c) I am only owner of vehicle.

Probably due for a coolant flush or 2. Over 20 years, stuff (casting sand, small iron pieces, etc) flakes off from the block. Try back-flushing the heater core first. If that is ineffective, try draining the coolant system (either petcock in radiator or bottom hose) and give it a good flush. Don't be afraid to do it a second time. I needed a second flush on my truck to get some heat.

Well did a complete flush of the cooling system this morning and now I have some heat coming from the vents, improved from before , it takes quite a while for the temp to come up, Heater hoses are quite warm so I know hot water is circulating. Its a 21 year old truck I have had since Dec 1996, I have thrown all kinds of stuff on the dash over the years, question I have now is the vaccum operated switching between heating and cooling referred to, where is this located. Is it in the engine compartment on the passenger side near the heater core. It may be worth investigating

IIRC, the vacuum modulator controls whether air comes out from the dash vents or the floor vents. As I said before though, this is all coming from my experience with my F-150.
