New '18 Expy Max Platinum

Just picked up the above truck for my wife. Replacing a 2015 Expy. Light silver. Max Trailer Tow and Entertainment. I had the opportunity to drive it from Dallas to Denver on a very windy day. Really enjoyed the seat and overall driving comfort. I wish Ford would have put the massaging seats on the Platinum. Overall fit and finish I think is good to very good. The ride quality is great. The vehicle was very stable in strong crosswinds. I got the Max Trailer Tow package for the 3.73 rear end and the truck feels very, very strong. It pulled hard in every situation. The motor is very strong and the tranny acted well, better than my 2018 Raptor. The ride quality is more BMW X5 that the old Expy. Not a lot of body roll, tracks straight and true and handles the twisties well.

There is a lot of flat real estate on the exterior of this truck and it really highlights bad seam fit and finish, I think the rear doors need some adjustment. Some interior parts feel cheap. The most disturbing thing I experienced was with flutter in the hood. It was a very windy day (made worse when passing semi trucks) and I pulled over to make sure the hood was properly secured. The hood was fluttering so bad I was worried it was going to fling open even thought it was latched properly. I suspect it is because it was made light to save weight - the hood flexes badly. Well, I think it is a huge fail on Ford's part and I hope they fix it. The hood needs to be reinforced.

Congrats?

Sounds like the hood was not adjusted properly.

Were you able to have your dealer look at that. Mines doesnt do that, sounds like a latch is loose.

As the suspension on the 2018 is nearly identical to the 2017 and before (rear suspension is virtually unchanged since 2006), any change in ride quality is likely the result of improved sound insulation and/or changes in the seats.
