OEM Headlight lens vs aftermarket Ebay
I’m wanting to replace the headlight lens without having to replace the whole break the bank assembly. I was wondering how the aftermarket and oem lenses differ? I would like to buy an aftermarket set and remove the lenses from new and install on original headlight housing. Does anyone know if it will work? It’s ridiculous how much a new oem headlight is

Replacement aftermarket headlights can be had for about $80 on Amazon. The most common problem with the aftermarket is they can get moisture in them. I have heard this can be avoided by the use of a little silicone around the perimeter of the lens.
As far as just replacing the lens. You will have to put them in the oven for about 15 minutes at about 200 degrees to loosen the sealant. Then be extremely careful not to crack the housing when prying the 2 pieces apart. Then reseal the housing and lens back together. There are you tube videos on how to do this.

Thanks for the reply. I’ve cracked open a pair of 2014 f250 headlights to paint and do a projector retro fit so that’s not a big deal. And I’ve also read about the leakage or condensation problems with aftermarket. My next door neighbor bought a set and they looked good but they were all crooked after adjusting so he had to return them. I would imagine but I haven’t Had an aftermarket set in hand to compare to the oem ones. I would like to just split my old and new set and just install the lens on my old housing but not sure if it would work? Has anyone ever seen just the lenses only for sale? Just lens not the assembly.I know my ford is not a Mercedes but I have seen that you can buy replacement lenses only for them and others to repair. It’s very cost effective and would be simple. Get a cutting disk and cut the lens about an inch away from where it attaches to housing and then use a heat gun or oven. It would be much easier then splitting a headlight intact

Thanks hank. I actually have a set of Morimoto projectors I think they are mini ds2 or something projectors. Plus I have all the switchbacks and shrouds. It was all basically free. I painted my ex brother-in-law’ 2014 f250 headlights the same color as his platinum truck and the floods we had here in Texas from Hurricane Harvey messes his truck up and he never paid for the paint. So I have everything to do the mod. So you wouldnt Have a problem with installing good projectors like these is aftermarket cheap headlight housing? That’s actually another question I’ve been trying to find. If the cheap headlight housings are good enough to put the projectors without any problems? Thanks man
