Hello, I'm trying to figure out what gearing I should go with. I just found out my truck has a single drive 3.25 Ford 9 inch rear end instead of a Dana 44 3.00 single drive that was suppose to be in my truck. My truck is a 1976 long bed, manual 3 speed, 2 wheel drive with a 302. My truck is very sluggish when I romp on it and I would like to have more power down low. I know my engine could use a little help but I also want to get the best gearing for my truck. Would there be much difference if I went from 3.25 rear gears to 3.70 rear gears? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
I have 28 inch diameter tires and I also have a 3.03 speed transmission I just converted from a worn out column shifter to a Hurst mastershift floor shifter.
My old thread but new question. My differential leaks fairly good so I wanted to top it off. It is an open differential, I don't know if that makes a difference in what oil I should put in it but I went ahead and bought Valvoline SAE 80W90 oil. I want to add I have no idea what is in it now but I am not wanting to pull it apart until I'm ready to change gears.
My differential does have a constant wet spot but hopefully no damage done as of yet. I hope to put 3.73 possi in by fall. I do have clutch chatter also but thought that was is the transmission?
The clutch type LSD can chatter when going around turns, especially under load. Since your diff is open, it can't make that kind of noise. So your chatter is more likely from some place else. Could be from a worn (or oil soaked) clutch in a manual transmission.
Yes, I unfortunately have a rear main seal leak also. Most likely the reason but also need to replace all my rubber bushings as they are badly worn. I definitely have a project truck.😫$$$$
