The interior rearview mirror in my 54 vibrates at speeds higher than around 50mph. The mounting screws are tight and there doesn't seem to be any looseness where the arm attaches to the head.
How can I prevent this? And don't say drive slower! The mirror in my 55 doesn't vibrate at any speed.
Mine vibrates as well but, I noticed it's related to engine RPM and not speed. I'm thinking my engine isn't balanced very well. Ross thinks clutch not balanced. I wont know for sure until I rebuild my engine.
Good luck Abe, I hope you find the answer.
Mine vibrates pretty bad in my 48. I dont know if the later trucks are the same, but the header panel on the bonus builts doesnt really have any support at the top. The whole panel vibrates because of this. I was thinking of adding a brace or something behind it to steady it a bit.

Maybe stuff a rag or something else temporarily behind that panel and see if it stops the vibration?
As said it is usually a vibration issue from engine (which includes clutch assembly) or drivetrain (which includes tires). If there is no vibration introduced the mirror won't vibrate. Start with simple fixes like tires and go from there.

Thanks for all the tips and suggestions. It has been vibrating for a long time, probably going back as far as 1999 after the truck was apart and fixed and painted. So it was vibrating back when I had radial tires on.

I have a 67 Camaro that I have the same issue with .... if got a LOT of money invested in chasing the problem .... wheels , tires , ujoints driveshaft trans mount , motor mounts , even checked to make sure exhaust wasn't rubbing somewhere .... at the end of last year I just replaced the clutch PP throwout bearing and had flywheel balanced plus upgraded to front disc brakes but haven't got to get a road test yet so we'll see if any of that may have helped ..... Also I had others mention it could be a wheel bearing or brake drum that could also be a cause.... good luck
I'm not going to go through all that for just a vibrating mirror. I feel no shimmy nor shaking in the truck. My steering wheel does not shimmy. When it vibrates at high speeds and I need to see behind me I just put my finger on it to stop the vibration.
Thanks for the help... But it's good to know I'm not the only one with the problem.
