Oil monitor 10% remaining

I guess it kind of snuck up on me. I checked it 952 miles ago and it was at 23% remaining. I've got a trip tomorrow that's about 200 miles round trip pulling a HD bumper pull 18' trailer. 100 miles empty trailer, return trip only about 5,000 lbs on the trailer.

Pretty much flat land with a speed limit of 75. Will 10% make it, or do I need to drive tonight and get some oil to change it before the trip? I usually keep spare oil on hand so I don't have this issue, but things have been busy lately.

Will the truck give me a count down to mandatory oil change, or is 0% left on oil like 0% left in the tank and I have to change the oil on the side of the road?

It’s not going to shut down at 0%

it’s just a reminder

you should be able to reset it to 100% if you want without changing the oil

No worry. It is what Ford calls "Intelligent Oil Life Monitor". It is recommended oil change intervals as computed by your driving style, ie, city verses highway or combo. You will be just find making the round trip and then get it changed when back home.

Good to hear. I'll run the test again before I change the oil to see how much more % was used. I'll try and remember to take a sample of the oil too and see what the lab things compared to the computer.

7200 miles is the average change interval for the IOLM divide that by 10 and we get 720 miles.

Does it actually vary in milage, or is it usually the same? I had some gassers over the last 10-12 years, my father also, they all targeted 12,000kms/7,500miles regardless of service. With those vehicles idle time or service didn’t matter, it was just milage so I went by UOA not the computer. Was curious if the system is indeed different.

Well, 234 miles today and it only went down to 7% remaining when I got home.

For those asking. 7% is 6,892.9 miles for me (I use the second trip meter for oil changes). The reading at 23% was at 50,786 on the odometer. The 10% reading came at 51,738. The 7% at 51,972.

Oil was changed tonight.

Glad you got it changed. When you get the change oil soon, the manual (at least mine) says you got 500 miles... And then you will get something along the lines of Oil Change Required. I run synthetic too, so not worried if I hit 0%, even though I never have.

I've went several hundred miles past the "oil change required" message on different occasions and the lowest TBN I've encountered on my UOA's is 3.2, which means there is plenty of active additives left in the oil.
Ford has built a very wide buffer into the IOLM.

The only way to see oil life on the 2011-2016 with the 6.7 was to do a VHR. The gas burner trucks was in the center display. Might check you owner's manual on the 2017.

If you have some sort of display like the cts2 or ndash you can monitor the pid which tells you % remaining

Are you sure on this? I have a CTS2 but never thought to check if one can or not. I won't be back home for 3 weeks, so can not check it.

Yup, at least on my ndash it does. I'd imagine the cts2 would be able to as well thou. Just got out of my truck, 42% oil life remaining.
