OIL PRESSURE SENDING UNIT & FITTING - LEAKING
Hey everyone,
Hope all is well. Got a question about oil sending units/sensors.
My sensor is leaking when I run the engine so I need to replace it; here is the tricky part for me (I'm not a mechanic so please keep this in mind).
1 - My 66 was originally a 352 now its a 390 so not sure if I need a different unit than the original.
2 - Which sending unit do I actually need, one or the other or both or a different one for a 390:
2a: https://www.macsautoparts.com/ford_t...ket_Cross_Sell
2b: https://www.macsautoparts.com/ford_t...thru-f350.html
3 - Finally does anyone know the fitting I use to attach the unit or units?
I will take any and all help, criticism, etc
Cheers,
Lax

They are the same for both engines. You may need 1 or both depending on what gauges you have. 1 is for the oil pressure gauge and the other is for the oil "idiot" light. Not all trucks had both
Either way both are common parts and most local parts houses should have them.
What "fitting" are you referring to?

If the truck has an oil pressure gauge and the idiot light, FoMoCo used a special fitting (C5TZ-9B339-B) that both sending units thread into. Green Sales has 7 of them = 800-543-4959.
But, if it only has the idiot light, there is no fitting, the sending unit threads directly into the oil filter adapter (see lower pic).
The oil pressure gauge sender is the same 1957/90's for all FoMoCo gas vehicles: E4ZZ-9278-A (Motorcraft SW-1547-B), available at any auto parts store.
The idiot light sender is the same 1957/66: B6A-9278-B (Motorcraft SW-667). Also available at any auto parts store.

Thanks blueblood. Exact set up I have. It’s the black one sensor that is leaking (wish I could get the video in here).
I just bought a new fitting from green sales then I will get the pieces ND indicates to buy. After that I need to work on getting the idiot (oil) light to actually turn off - it stays on all the time. That’s a whole
other issue.
Thanks again for all of the help

ND,
So I read somewhere that these parts were notorious for leaking. Anyway to prevent that? Also, is there a way to set up just the sending unit that is not used for the light sensor? Use only E4ZZ-9278-A since B6A-9278-B seems to be the one leaking on my truck.
Thanks for any advise.

Teflon tape will work. For a fitting that small, only go around 4 or 5 times, leaving a couple of threads exposed on the ends. A small dab of teflon paste wouldn't hurt either. Make certain that you wrap the tape in the opposite direction that the sensor turns. This way, the tape will not loosen when the sensor is tightened, which will also reduce the likelihood of tape getting into the engine. Good luck.

You can remove both sensors, remove the fitting they are attached to, and then screw whichever sensor you want use directly into the pump. That also cuts the number of possible leak points from three down to just one.
