Door alignment/ Rear axle ratio

Hi, I have a 1950 F1 pickup. The drivers door when shut sticks out from the body at the back lower edge. I have seen a few in photos that appear to have gone the same way. Is there any thing I can do about this ?..

Secondly Is it an easy job to change the Crown gear and pinion in the rear axle ?. Are they available, and does anybody know where I might find one in the UK ?.

It could be a sprung door, there was a Ford publication addressing this problem back in the day but can't recall where I saw it..... maybe do a search? You could also mess with the lower hinge and see if the door will move in. You can get new gear set's for the F1 rear ends but you'll also need to get a new carrier, Try RANDYS Worldwide for info.

Sorry for the delay in my reply, I have been away a while. Thanks for the information. Could not find anything from Ford on that so far anyway. I will continue to search. What is the Carrier, concerning the differential ?.

It's the part of the internals which the crown wheel attaches to. There are different diameters, bolt patterns, etc. So when you change ratio, you have to make sure you get a gear set which matches your existing setup, otherwise you need to change more kit than just the crown wheel and pinion.

I believe you can also get issues at the pinion end, where the input spline pattern is different. This means the existing input yoke won't fit the new pinion, so you have to change that as well. And get it to mate with the rear propshaft flange still.

There is a page in the shop manual which shows springing and bending the door using a spacer such as a rubber mallet, or wood block. That might be enough in your case? Sorry I am not near my manual to scan the page for you.
