1948 Ford Herrington Step Van....how rare?

Trying to see if anyone knows anything about this model 1948 Ford Marmon-Herrington. I've looked all over the internet, and nothing. I found one picture of a milk van. How rare is it? F-3...?
Thanks

It’s the only one I’ve seen. Is it yours? With the special body, winch, tow hooks, wheels like I’ve never seen, and military NDT tires it was special ordered for some serious purpose. I’m gonna assume F-3, but it’s hard to tell the truck’s wheelbase from an angle. A 122” would be F-2/F-3, and 134” would be F-4/F-5. Do you know that it’s a 1948, or could it be a 1949 or 1950? Being that it’s a CA truck it could have been a geological survey truck, utility company service vehicle, or similar. Is there M-H badging that you can post the numbers from, as well as the truck’s serial number? And if it is yours and you can get under it, please see if you can find a prominent three or four digit number stamped into the long tube of the front axle. F-3 M-Hs’ front axles are numbered, and seemingly installed in number order. I’ve kept an archive of those found that might help give an idea of its year. Stu

I see the shadow of a Marmon-Herrington badge on the side of the hood by the cowl, and F-4 on the cowl. I'll speculate because of the color and bumper chevron paint, it's either ex-USN or ex-USAF. Also has some sort of turret on the roof. Very interesting unit.

It's not mine, a friend is looking to buy it. I know Ford trucks more than him but I was mystified. I don't have access to serial numbers but it does have the badge on the hood and the badge on the glovebox. It's very original. I think that's a spare wheel on the roof and not a turret. (I did find a pic online that matches it and so there must be at least another one out there. White van.) Here's the interior of the van we've found:

Good eye, Bob, I missed the F-4 badge looking at it only on my phone. That makes it even more unique. I think I’ve only come across one other F-4 M-H. It is a school bus. Stu

Edit - the other pictures show that has the two speed transfer case. The M-H model number would be R4-4. Stu

Very interesting but not a milk truck. Anyone able to zoom in on what appears to be a badge at the bottom of the driver side door jam?
I don't believe the white truck shown is a MH. Front hubs are not MH.

That may have been either a badge or a bracket, Ray. Either way, it seems to be MIA.

The sticker CORVA in the rear window stands for California Offroad Vehicle Association. Or
some sort of Oil Drilling company.... Or it means prostitute in Yiddish. Or if you are into Star Wars...
Corva was a planet in Corva sector's Galaanus system. The Galactic Republic established a colony on the planet which
was wiped out by clodhoppers which arrived in a grain shipment. The clodhoppers ate all the vegetation on Corva as well as 87% of the colonists

That plate is the M-H lubrication plate. I’d think there should also be the M-H model data plate that normal trucks have mounted over the windshield. Stu

About the missing badge at the bottom in front of the door, Its mate is on the passenger side. I can not read it but it might be the name of the body builder, such as Seibert or Boyertown. Probably a body builder close to CA.

The bumpers look military.

My truck was purchased directly from the Coast Guard. The only details (other than the bumpers) distinguishing it as a military vehicle are painted markings on the doors and a small decal on the glove box.

Love the carpet placed above the dash. Maybe to absorb water leaking in from the windshield rubber?

Got an email from one of our M-H guys about the wheels. They look like F-2 M-H style Budd 47210s, but if I’m seeing right have split outer rings. The 47210 has the Firestone RHP solid ring rim. So it sent me back to the books. Budd shows two SRW style 16” wheels having the Goodyear LTS split ring type rims. Number 68210 has a 6.00G outer rim, and number 60670 has a 6.50H rim. We’ve never come across these before, but it makes sense that the bigger model truck would get a wider set of rims. Stu
