If your van is a E150 it would have a Ford 8.8". If it is a E250 or E350 it would have some variation of a Dana 60 or Dana 70.

If you need to know exactly what you have you'll need to pull the tag or find the BOM # and look it up. Here's a website that covers it all: http://www.differentials.com/technic...dentification/

The tag is destroyed. I think you can see it in the picture.

Maybe it will I’ll clean off.

How can I tell if it is semi or full float?

Thanks for the info guys. that was quick.

Semi float: Wheel fastens to axle shaft via studs or capscrews, axle shaft supports all forces.

Full float: Axle shaft "floats" in the housing, transmits only torque. Axle housing supports the hub and carries weight and all other input/loads.

The full floater diffs will have a larger center hub that sticks out past the wheel.It will have a bunch of bolts that hold the axle shaft in. Here's a picture of my E350 Dana 60 full floater so you can see the larger hub I'm talking about.

@85e150six4mtod beat me to it.

Are you ever going to install that axle?

youve been showing that pic for for a year now.

And every time time I see it I like to think you just ran out to your garage real quick to get a live pic.

Is the rusting normal? What can I, or should I, do about it?

What rust? There are a few different ways to deal with rust depending on where it is and how bad it is.

I do all my work in my driveway. So I'm at the mercy of the weather. Once more of the snow is gone and the temps get into the upper 40's-50's on a regular basis then I will start working on the projects I've got lined up. My Club wagon is almost at the end of the list as far as the vehicles I need to work on goes. I'm hoping to get to it towards the end of summer beginning of fall. But who knows it could be the summer of 2019. Before I start on it I've got 3 engine swaps, a transmission swap, a complete rebuild of the brake and fuel system on my truck, a whole list of metal work, engine work and suspension work on my 96 E250, and a full rebuild of one of my trailers so I can sell it. Scattered in between all of that I've got a few cylinder heads to rebuild and port and manifolds to port. And a couple intake manifolds and headers to fabricate. Then throw in repairing some snowblowers, lawn mowers and a motorcycle or two and projects go kind of slow. Especially with no shop to work in. Then throw in needing parts and supplies for each of those projects and it takes way too long. My poor 54 F100 is at the end of the list.
