Power outlet on dash keeps blowing a fuse even after I changed the socket!

I have a 2011 expedition. The power outlet on the dash went out .it was a blown fuse. I replaced but kept blowing when I put a load on it .I replaced the socket itself. It worked for a second but blew the fuse again. What is causing this and how do I fix it. The wires look fine at the plug. The wires then get wrapped up and go too far into the dash to follow. How can I fix this?

Which specific fuse? Which specific outlet? When, specifically, does the fuse blow? If the fuse blows when you plug something in, what, specifically, are you plugging into the outlet?

It is the 12v power outlet, not the cigar lighter. I believe it is fuse 64. I am plugging my phone charger into it. If I plug it into the rear 12v outlet it works fine . The outlet that won't work is on the dash at the passenger's chair right below the a/c vent .

Sounds like a dead short. Something to do within the circuit wiring. Honestly, I would abandon that line and cap it off safely. Either trace the line (which will probably be too difficult) or run a new line dedicated for the power port using 12 gauge stranded. Its not worth the potential for fire. Make sure you rule out that phone charger first.

I bought a new charger yesterday and just have to find another fuse to replace to see if that works. If I reran the wires what can I run it to? Can I splice off the cigar lighter and run it from there since I never use it and it works?

Check and see if the replacement charger works or not before getting too far ahead.

I tried the outlet and new power source but it blew the fuse again. Where can I look for the dead short or how do I rewire the socket itself. I just don't like having something that should work not work. The cigar lighter works and the all other power outlets work fine but the one in the dash just keeps blowing the fuse. Any videos would help greatly.

Its either a dead short in the circuit or the cigarette lighter socket itself is faulty. Try to diagnose it first. Remove the cigarette lighter from the dash, remove the connections from the cigarette lighter. Touch the wires to anything 12v (like a light or your phone charger) and see if the fuse blows. If the fuse blows again, there's a problem within the circuit. If it doesn't, replace the cigarette lighter part and call it a day.
