Electrical questions 1989 F250

Trying to tie up two last loose ends before going for inspection on my new to me 89 F250. The 2 remaining things are non working reverse lights and non working high beams.

Reverse lights - The fuse is good. The bulbs look good. I understand that the wire leading back to the lights is black/pink. Before I go lay under the truck and hunt down the breakdown in power, should I start at the neutral safety switch? If that is bad, would it cause the lights to not come on? It happened in my old impala when that switch was loose. Just looking for common places. The real kicker is a previous owner hacked up the wiring in the rear to add a trailer harness that is no longer there. If power is coming out of the nss, then I would bet the issue is at that mess.

High Beams - i tested power coming out of the foot switch. Power is good at the red wire (low) as well as the yellow/green (high). But at the plug for the actual lights, only the red has power. So only the low beams come on. Any ideas on where to look? I could just run a new wire from the foot switch but would rather not.

Thanks in advance.

Well. I ran a new wire for the high beams. Now they work. Ordered a nss so that should be going on in a couple of hours. Will see if that does it

No luck with the new neutral safety switch. I am very open to ideas at this point.

So, I was reading that the orange/purple wire in one of these bundles is where I should look for power on both sides of the connector. Any ideas as to which connector has the orange/purple wire?

At this point I might start paying people if they just reply at all. It is a little lonely in this thread.

What transmission do you have?
On my 89 with a ZF-42 I had to replace the switch on the transmission to get the reverse lights working.

E4OD. And the only switch I am aware of is the neutral safety switch. I installed a new one and no difference.

Have you checked the fuse and power to the NSS with a loading test light?

I do not have the wiring diagram for a 1989 but I think it is very close to the 1990 so here it is:

The wire you are looking for is a purple wire with an orange stripe and not a orange/purple wire

Thanks for the correction. I will look for the purple wire with the orange stripe. And the fuse is good, as indicated by my tester as well as the fact that the turn signals work.

And I used a test light on the black with pink wire coming out of the nss but no luck on that wire at any position of the transmission. I will test the incoming purple/orange wire going into the nss now that I know which wire to look for.

Thanks for the clear wiring diagram. Much better than the one I have. If nothing else, I can find that wire coming out of the fuse block and test it there, then at the connection (before and after). Just need to see which connector it is in.

Well, i thought I found where the problem was. After tracing the power all the way to the nss, I saw that the purple/orange wire was not in the plug

But after getting that pin to work by jumping the wire, still no power to the black and pink. So maybe that wire has an issue at the plug as well. Too bad it is so dang hard to test the power in the wire coming out without the nss attached. I will have to go back out and try again in a bit. Grrrrrrrr
