Stuck in park. Don't think it's shift collar

1972 F100, factory automatic on the column.
Won't come out of park.
I've read a lot of posts here that point to the shifter collar being notorious for problems.
However, I have removed the steering wheel, removed the shifter column collar and shift lever completely and removed the linkage arm from the firewall side to the transmission,.
At this point, I would think that I could grab the arm on the firewall side and roll it back and forth but she's still stuck.
Anyone have other ideas on what I'm doing wrong?
thanks

At this point your diagnostic process seems about right. Unless it's sitting on a steep grade, my guess is an internal problem in the transmission. Pull the pan and have a look.

The transmission shifts just fine by hand.
it's the column and column linkage arm that I can't get to move.

I guess I misunderstood what you were moving under the hood. Bite the bullet and just pull the steering column so you can disassemble and inspect it. You can't get it all the way apart in the truck.
