I just bought a 1978 F150 4X4 Ranger. It's in great condition. It still has the original 2 barrel carb on it. I'm looking for suggestions for an intake manifold and 4 barrel.

 

best upgrades for starters are a non egr 4 barrel intake and a high flow exhaust. that will really wake it up. keep the carb around 600CFM or less.
i have an edelbrock performer non EGR intake and holley 600CFM vacuum secondary carb on my 351M, and knocked th stock exhaust off the factory "Y" pipe. replaced the exhaust with a flowmaster delta 50 series 3 inch muffler with 45 degree sweep off the back of the muffler.
went from a gas guzzling pig to a tire burning runner. mileage went from around 8 mpg to over 12 mpg.

 

460 I Wouldn't waste any time or money on the 400. it's almost a bolt in.
Bolts up to the bell housing. need the right mounts-both engine and frame. Good Luck!!

 

Bolt on, bigger cam, elderbrock aluminum 4 barrel intake, 750 vacuum sec. Carb, headers dual 2 1/2 exhaust, maybe Cleveland 351 heads,
or BBF 429 OR 460
