The roller camshaft block is also found in 1994 trucks, and reportedly in some late '93s.
It can be identified by an F4TE cylinder block casting number, unfortunately located directly over the starter motor so difficult to see in an installed engine.

I wish I had a Boss 302. No, mine is a Mach 1, whose original 351W engine must have been blown up by a previous owner, as by the time I got it, it had this really abused 68 302 with a cast iron 4 bbl intake and a leaky Ford 4 bbl carb. I'm guessing it came from a truck of some sort, so there is no pretense of originality.

The 5.0 HO in my 87 drives so much nicer, and gets much better gas mileage and definitely runs much cleaner. Those would be the incentive for the switch. But a smaller carb would be cheaper to try.

If the 68 motor was original, that came from either a 68 Stang or a boat. Or someone bolted that intake on. Check the casting numbers on the intake. The C8ZE intake may be the same as the rest of the older 289 intakes, but would bring a higher price to someone restoring a 68 Stang.

Well, it IS a C8ZE-9425A, a 1968 Mustang 4bbl small intake manifold. It's on top of a freshly rebuilt set of 1965 289 2V heads, on top of a 1965 289 block in bad need of machining. Maybe I'll sell them just to get them out of the garage.

I've lived here in California all my life, anyrate I found a 351C 4v CJ motor.
It runs and doesn't look too bad but I'm going to rebuild it since it's out of the truck lol
it came mated to a FMX transmission. I would be happy to use the FMX but one mount tab is broke off the tail housing.
anyone know if the housing is easy to replace (and find)? It's cast iron so not easy to repair.

I have a complete MX transmission, not sure if the tails are the same. A few close up pics would help to figure it out. The MX is the predecessor to the FMX. The smog police will LOVE that Cleveland ! LOL !
