Got thrown by a friend's Explorer today. Went to help him out by reading codes. Found an OBDII connector on the bottom edge of the dash and plugged in my FCom reader cable. Scanned for CPU's and found RAP, ABS and GEM modules. No PCM? So, I got my ELM327 device and my Torque app, still no connection?
So, pulled the ECM and to my surprise, I found an EECIV ECM. F5TF 12A650-ARC. Catch code FIG2. 60 pin connector and all. To the best of my knowledge, this is not an OBDII ECU.
Is this combination of technologies the norm? Or am I missing something?
My 95 Mustang is the same way. The only thing that the OBDII connector is actually connected to is the ABS module on it and is only used for diagnostics on the ABS system.
To pull codes on the old EEC-IV system, all you need is a short jumper like a paper clip, a working CEL, and some patience and practice.
Mark, I see that you were a transmission engineer. If you are familiar with the A4LD, and wouldn't mind, I would appreciate if you would take a look-see at my post concerning the A4LD in my Explorer that I posted yesterday. Thank you, FireKing
