Oil in my air intake?

Notice the line on the plastic, covered with the oil or whatever it is.

The top also has oil around the bottom of it... Maybe I should mention that my radiator is kind of low too?
Hey guys, do about an hour ago I took apart my air filter casing just to check the health of my air filter, and I found there was oil in the air intake tube... I have some pics. Not sure if this is normal or what, hence why I post. Thanks

Is it running okay? If it is my guess would be a stuck PCV valve.

Pcv valve would be my first guess also, next would be worn rings. Pcv is cheap and easy to check/change.

I've seen this happen on speed density trucks due to the location of the breather. I haven't seen oil in the box on a MAF truck through. If you replace the PCV get a Motorcraft one of you can.

how would have the oil made its was all the way to the air filter? That much pressure? Truck has no leaks (knock on wood).

it runs alright, a slight knock here and there... gotta do a tune up, it’s due for its warranty service schedule of 90k miles. This is the same truck that likes to surge to 1,500 when I start it then stumble around 450-500 before gettin rpms back up to 1,100. Other than that she runs pretty well, knock on wood again.

so I’m guessing this is in fact oil, right? I’m just confused as to how it would reach the MAF sensor, and the air filter. Very odd to me.

I'd start with a pcv valve, especially after you say it has a surge.

It's not intuitively obvious to me....is that a paper filter or something like a K&N (oil soaked)?

it’s thw issue where it surges, CEL flash 4x, then stalk out (wont die completely). It’s just really odd..

I am not sure, might be. I hadn’t even done an oil change on this thing yet, only had it since November and but about 2k on it. I’ll try and get a hold of the previous owner, but I don’t thing so. The far side of the filter seems to be dry.

Maybe the previous owner had a KN in there for a while. Think that filter is a gold Purolator, which is actually oil coated media, but those are throw away not re-oil. Also they aren't wet like KN. I wouldn't use it though.

My suggestion would be to disassemble everything and wash it with Dawn and clean the MAF with the appropriate cleaner. Then install a clean WIX filter and and a new PCV valve and see if the oil returns.

that looks awfully clean to be engine oil. but, pcv is definitely the place to start as it is a maintenance item.

A quick sniff test oughtta show if it's oil or not. Looks like very very fresh oil if is. Or, green antifreeze-coolant which you specifically mention as being "low". Hm.

Do you perform your own oil changes? I ask because I know my truck has the breather tube from the oil neck to the air box, and was thinking. MAYBE an oil change place that uses the bulk oil guns filled too fast and it backed up the tube instead of all flowing down the return holes to the pan
