Exclamation '93 auto AOD jumping out of gear

Here is the scenario:
When the engine is cold, drive will slip out of gear for maybe 15-20 seconds. This only happens after acceleration of a few seconds, lets say 5-10 seconds, then first gear slips out. Revs go up to about 1-1.5k then, pop, back into gear. After that, It may do it one more time. But then it runs fine after that.
An additional note to add here is that when I leave my house, I have to drive up a hill. So it seems as though the additional load of the hill is a factor which causes 1st gear to slip out. I can't be absolutely sure, but I believe I left a buddies house after staying that night. And driving down the hill leaving his house, instead of up, negated the slippage to ever happen. Either way, it shouldn't be happening.

Things I have done/tried:
new atf fluid / filter
adjust TV cable to correct tension
check codes (i get 33,34,44)
check atf fluid level when hot, level surface (Is a little low, subpar of the hash marks but above lower hole)
and as it sits now, I wouldn't think additional atf would affect the cold startup operation anyways (I may be wrong just an assumption)

At this point I really have 3 more options to explore
1. add more atf half a quart at a time, up to a quart added
2. drop the pan, again, and double check the filter
3. some people have mentioned replacing the VSS (but I'm not entirely sure that is even related)

Those two are good things to check.

This one is a waste of time and money. The AOD is a hydraulic/mechanical transmission. There are no electronic controls on the transmission, so by definition no sensor can affect the transmission.

My experience says low fluid does contribute to this problem so I suggest topping it up, but you may also notice that this problem goes away or vastly improves as ambient temps rise.
