Hutch/Harpoon Mod

Looking for suggestions on where to mount my pre pump filter, i have a NAPA 4770 base and a Baldwin 1212 filter. Ive seen some people mount theirs on the outside of the frame and others on the inside. So im looking for pictures or suggestions on what to do thanks!

There is tons of information on the FTE regarding this. I would encourage you to use the ADVANCED search function and look for "hutch" in the title field only in the 99-03 diesel section.

In the middle of the screen on the blue horizontal bar is search, once you select that advanced search is an option.

Most install the filter on the inside of the frame because that is where the plumbing and most protection is at.

I just got rid of my BF1212 and installed the Racor. I had it mounted just forward of the tank on the driver's side frame. I think I might still have it (base, bracket, and bolts). If I still have it (and you're interested) it's yours if you pay shipping.

I ditched my BF1212 for the PS120 about two years ago, and wish I had started with the PS120 to begin with... Cleanable screen, see-through bowl, no replacement filter elements, smaller footprint, and excellent (more than actually necessary) filtration.

I think one other benefit to the racor over the 4 micron 1212 is less strain on the fuel pump. The racor will remove anything from the fuel necessary. The main filter in the stock bowl will protect the injectors.

Dangit, one more thing...what size barb fitting for the fuel lines? I'll be going to town tomorrow and can pick them up. I know it's 3/8 NPT, but not sure of the fuel line size. Thanks and sorry for the hijack.

I used 3/8” fuel line for the tank to the PS120, and 5/16” from PS120 to the fuel pump. So, if you go that route you’d need one each 3/8” NPT-3/8” hose barb and 3/8” NPT-5/16” hose barb.

Also, make sure you get the Racor PS120-02. That has the 3/8” NPT thread size. I believe the PS120-01 has 1/2” NPT threads.

I still have my old base and filter sitting in a box on the shelf and as you can see from reading this others have been down the same road. At least you won't be doing the install twice!

Cant even install it yet, too cold in CT to work outside, if only I was able to convince someone to let me have a bigger garage next to the driveway
